Should Yurkov be jailed?

into his account and the bank told him everything was ok.

Man who became millionaire due to banking error sentenced to six years behind bars after spending on property, cars & travel

A Russian man who received 95.2 million rubles ($1.3 million) in one night after a digital banking error has been sent to prison for six years after a court found him guilty of taking advantage of a software issue to commit theft.

According to the prosecutors, Roman Yurkov made 220 different transactions on the night of June 1, 2020, after discovering a technical error while taking money out of his bank account at a bookmaker. He later went on to buy four apartments, a new iPhone, a BMW, and a Mercedes, before being arrested in December. His account, which had 39 million rubles ($540,000) left, was seized.

On Friday morning, a Tula court sentenced him to six years in prison on charges of theft from a bank account committed on a particularly large scale.

However, Yurkov says he has done absolutely nothing wrong.

According to online publication Mash, which spoke to the man and wrote an extensive article on the story, Yurkov says he woke up on the morning of July 1, and like in the movies he was suddenly rich.

Initially, he presumed it was winnings from the bookies, he claimed. He called up the bank to make sure everything was in order, he says, and was told that everything was fine. Over the next few months, he began to splash the cash, buying cars and apartments, constantly calling the bank to make sure everything was okay with his account. He says he was repeatedly told that everything was fine.

In November, his account was shut down. One month later, Yurkov was called into the bank for a meeting to discuss the situation. He was then arrested.

According to the man, he didnt do anything wrong and claims that he fully believed it was a mistake by the bookmaker.
Yurkov can still appeal the decision, although it is not yet known if he intends to.

Well that's just stupid. Its one thing to buy a little more for lunch...But to buy cars and property? At least wait a few years to see what happens with it.

The bank said it was cool multiple times, but they probably had no idea how it got there at the time.

Yes you should be wary of such a deposit. I've had deposits I don't expect and I always wait to figure out where it came from

But on the other hand they dude was told repeatedly by the very bank that later called the cops on him, that nothing was wrong.

He should have looked more deeply to discover the source of the money but...... fuck this bank.

dude if you had 1.3m deposited into your account out of no where calling the bank is probably the least amount of legwork that could be done next to doing nothing.

he needed to visit the bank and get something in writing about this. Even then spending that money so quickly was insanely foolish and irresponsible if he knew it wasnt his.
