I hated enforcing the mask policy. It must be done of course but i am glad its over.

People here dont have to wear them anymore. So, nobody really tells anyone to put them on So, most people are maskless. Worker wear them, though

While I never had to deal with that I heard from our hosts/hostesses just how bad it was, like multiple people a day yelling at them, calling them communists, etc. They made one of the hostesses cry and quit from the repeated abuse. Some people are fucking assholes.

That. The CDC was naive and irresponsible to release the updated recommendations when they did, given that so few people are actually fully vaccinated and how impractical it is to screen people to make sure they aren't lying (which they inevitably will). There was never any chance that the announcement wouldn't be met with businesses completely abandoning mask requirements en masse, and there was never any chance that a significant portion of the general public would abide by the honour system and keep wearing them voluntarily once requirements were lifted.

The CDC has said that fully vaccinated people don't need to wear masks anymore. They have not said that it's safe for unvaccinated people to go without masks, and given that over half the country still is not fully vaccinated, abandoning masks requirements entirely is baseless and stupid. I'm not disputing their assessment, I'm recognizing its limitations and how inevitable it was that idiots would ignore those limitations.

N=6, no actual indication of how masks were being cleaned, no indication of how long they were worn before testing, no indication of which side of the masks were tested... Perhaps most significantly, no corresponding data on increases in the actual case rates of any of the "dangerous diseases" listed among those wearing masks over the past year. I think it's pretty safe to dismiss that as nothing more than anti-mask fearmongering and an incentive to wash your masks before using them again.
