I'm all for it

The very first Black person to appear on the show, Fred accused him of being the culprit within seconds.

<_<

And black Fred can instantly assume every white dude did it. It can still work.

For reference, the accusation comes in The Scooby Doo Show episode, The Ghost That Sacked the Quarterback. It's right at the five minute mark.

Crunch Connors: "If I were you kids, I'd get out of here with that ghost running around."
Shaggy: "You heard the man. Let's get out of here."
Scooby: "Yeah."
Fred: "Not so fast, you two. We've got a mystery to solve. Excuse me, Coach Baxter. Who is that player?"
Coach Baxter: "Well, that's Crunch Conners. He's replacing Flash Ranger."
Fred: "Replacing Flash? Very interesting."

Seconds later, Crunch Connors is abducted and, thus, is not the culprit.

His facial expressions and tone of voice both imply he thinks they've found their culprit. I guess that doesn't come through in plain text. lol.

In the context of the show, Fred is suspicious that Crunch Connors has gotten the star player out of the way so that he can be the standout.

I know it's unintentional, but it's still a bad look. The first time in the show the blond White guy sees a Black guy, he immediately thinks he has a suspect.

You know I generally don't really care about race changing characters, but it honestly is pretty damn fascinating that Hollywood really does replace red headed characters with black people. I mean it's just so specific that it's odd. It's like they see red hair and then it triggers this thought process subconsciously or something.

There's a definitely a pattern.

If I were to venture to guess, I think it's because redheads are usually stereotyped as being "the sexy one(s)."

When a redheaded White woman becomes a Black woman, there's normally a secondary change to the character that makes her less attractive than she was before. She becomes withdrawn when she used to be outgoing. She becomes a nerd when she used to be the girl next door. She's dressed up in body armor when she used to wear something figure-fitting. In that regard, it becomes a two-for-one special. The casting is more inclusive and they've eliminated the character who might be seen as a liability.

I hate to go off on a "Hollywood is making characters less sexy" tangent, but I think those secondary changes are the driving motive as to why redheads are usually the ones getting hit with the diversity ball. That, or maybe they got tired of making blond characters Black and decided to start tagging redheads with it.

The onky reason it was done for this new show is because Mindy Kaling is heavily involved in the show in addition to voicing Velma. So Velma is being designed to resemble her. There is no woke agenda here. It's ego.

I think it's fair enough for a voice actor to want their character to look something like them.

Besides, it's difficult to stress the importance of ethnicity-specific casting *cough*Simpsons*cough* if you allow an Indian woman to play a White woman.

Asian Velma has been done before.

There's 5 live action movies.

-The first two

-2 straight to DVD movies from 2009 and 2010 with Velma as an East Asian

-Daphne & Velma from 2018 where Daphne is black and Velma is white.

There's also the CGI movie from last year where Velma is Hispanic.
