Do you think Florida has the weirdest people?

43 y/o PJ Nilaja Patterson is facing 5 YEARS in the big house for TORTURING a 3ft long IGUANA by beating it and dragging it around for 30 MINUTES who now is claiming STAND YOUR GROUND for killing it after it bit him!!

He is invoking the controversial law after he was arrested for animal cruelty charges when surveillance footage caught the horrific torture

On Sept 2, he was seen beating and tormenting the animal outside Lake Worth Utilities as video caught him torturing the animal

He said it bit him causing "22 stitches" so he stood his ground to "fight back"

His lawyers filed a motion stating he feared for his life and that the iguana could kill him with its "poison" and it should be protected by the stand your ground law which gives the right to fight someone and kill them if your life is threatened.

The statement says "In this case, Patterson acted in a reasonable manner under all the circumstances because the wild iguana was first to engage with physical violence during the encounter"

The motion was denied by the judge

The cop who watched the video said it showed Patterson dragging the Iguana by the tail and then swinging it around hard ground. He was then seen kicking it several times as the iguana tried to hide under a car but he continued to attack it by trying to get it out before stomping on it several times that lasted nearly 30 minutes in total

The vet who examined it said it was clearly animal cruelty who examined the injuries that said it was painful and terrifying

Do you think Florida has the weirdest people?

okay I thought stand your ground was like ... if you approach me and decide you're gonna keep approaching me and I decide to stand my ground and you make the first move (or are already showing intentions of harm) I'm entitled to then advance upon your sorry ass

which vs. an animal is prrrrobably about right

but this guy

what

Iguana are considered pests/invasive species in Florida IIRC. I don't know the specifics of their law but the dude probably could've killed it humanely no problem. This guy's a psycho.

Stomping on something is pretty humane, that thing was probably dead within seconds.

I dropped a big rock on a mouse caught in a mouse trap, like there's a better way to do it.

Anyways my logic is flawless, set him free

so I mean... lol

The more you sit and think about it, I get his intention was to murder it and probably did not have such a big rock or something similar on-hand... and as InternalFive states, it may be considered a pest/invasive species or in this case, potentially violent or dangerous

and it may have taken him a total beating and going back and forth with the thing for about 30 minutes

But I feel like he just as easily could have kicked the son of a bitch and taught him his lesson and went about his business

Or killed him quicker than that. But, while gruesome sounding, I kind of get it. it's just there's not much of a way to humanely murder the thing without pulling out a firearm/related weapon and taking care of it

"humane murder" lol

It was also still alive when animal control took custody of it.

And you were literally just in the other topic explaining to me how I don't understand obvious jokes

I wouldn't mind explaining to you that I'm joking because text doesn't convey sarcasm well in general but you were literally just mocking me for it
