What gives? I haven't been on CE in about five years now but you guys used to care about good games

I hear there are three choices for how to play. The old JP version, Dante version (what we got on the PS2), and Raidou version?

The remastered version is the Raidou version, and the Dante version is DLC.

Only if you're not willing to pay the Atlus tax.

Honestly, I kinda like this. In the 3DS days, all Atlus games got the Atlus tax and cost more. I didn't mind paying cause they were legitimately better than all the other 3DS games.

Now you can pay the tax to play the game early, or just buy it for normal price at launch.

All companies should offer this, so we can play all games a week early if we choose to pay

Im debating on paying the Atlus tax now or waiting until Tuesday to get it cheaper. What do you guys think I should do

is it really that hard compared to Persona? i thought persona 4 got pretty challenging. persona 5 was a cake walk compared to it.

persona 3 was hard but managable. instant death spells cast on the MC pissed me off

With SMT if you have a bad weakness in a boss fight it's pretty much a guaranteed party wipe.

it's harder yes, but manageable as long as you know what you're doing

With SMT if you have a bad weakness in a boss fight it's pretty much a guaranteed party wipe.

During my very first playthrough years ago, I actually lost in one of the tutorial battles because the enemy Preta kept getting critical hits.

So yeah, if the enemy hits a weakness or manages to get a Critical off of you, then you're in trouble, because some enemies will take advantage of that.

That's because Atlus is gate keeping it behind the deluxe edition. Play it four days early if you buy the deluxe digital. So, today is the release date, and everybody else gets to play 4 days late. For an 18-year-old remaster. Atlus is sure happy to follow the shitty trends of AAA development.

Hybrid mag str is fine too. You dont really need to max the stats and tornado is too op to pass up on early on

But yeah phys is best I guess

SMT snobs are funny in how they overstate the difficulty. Persona 3 is every bit as hard, if not harder, than Nocturne. In fact the "secret" boss for P3 is much harder, you literally lose right away unless you look up the pattern for the fight.

No turn-based JRPG can be hard when grinding is possible. It's just people trying to feel better about themselves. Sure you'll die sometimes in Nocturne, just like you would in any pre-2004 JRPG without a guide. But it's not super challenging like everyone says it is.

Awesome game though. The battle system is timeless turn-based bliss, and the atmosphere is absolutely unmatched. Really gives you that sense of dread wandering around the vortex world. Not to mention the kickass soundtrack.

During my first playthrough, I think I died more in P3 than I did in Nocturne.

P3's final boss can charm your healer and the secret boss took me like a full day of fusing Personas to get one good enough to win. Whereas Nocturne's boss I beat on the first try with no preparation. And that was with using Dante without Pierce.

Without knowing about pierce you cant even really fight the last Nocturne boss, so eh

But if you beat it without that... ok... personally I dont find the game that hard and think if you trawl the boards you'll agree most people think the game is easy with the right prep

And the game is straight up harder than most RPGs

Whether it's harder than p3, no idea

Persona 3 was hard in the grand scheme of things, but in terms of the SMT power level, it was pretty much considered the easiest SMT made at the time. Then every subsequent Personas just got easier

But yeah Nocturne really doesn't let you just breeze through. A lot of the times, your first foray into a hard fight or even just a hard encounter might result in a sudden game over.

If you install the Nocturne Hardtype mod, which brings the game some much needed difficulty with things like battles against all four riders at once, also makes a magic build viable. Odds are the mod will be ported over to the remaster sooner or later

I feel somewhat proud that I was able to beat Persona 3 using only a Max S Link guide. I got no help for equipment load out or party members to use.

I also liked how if you were using a persona with null, repel, or absorb, Elizabeth would just use Megidolaon until you died.

SMT DDS had some pretty fucking hard fights in terms of RPGs without being flat out bullshit. I don't think every SMTs are like the hardest RPGs ever because some "harder" RPGs are hard just out of bullshit or horrible scaling or overly bloated mechanics. I think SMT manages to stay simple enough while putting complexities outside the battle so that a large part of beating SMT ends up happening in the prep phase like most good RPGs should. I don't think most SMTs required much grinding either unless you ran from like every fight, but they do make running hard to do in several games.

I'd say in terms of Atlus RPGs, the Etrian Odyssey series is a bit better as an RPG, but SMT has its stories and such to make up for it

This is a really bad take. You're comparing a superboss where the difficulty ranges from if you aren't prepared you automatically lose to if you're prepared you can only lose if you deliberately do so to a game where even prepared random battles can wipe you. Also no one lost against AoN except as a joke, it's the easiest final boss in the series.

Nope, you can beat Nocturne's "secret" boss fairly easily without a guide (you'll die on the way but it happens, boohoo), can't beat P3's that way. And being prepared for P3's secret boss is no guarantee that you'll win, there is still some RNG involved like if high counter kicks in on the right turn, or if you can beat the boss within the turn limit.

P3's regular final boss is not easier than P4's or P5's lol, gtfo. It's even more annoying than Nocturne's secret boss. At least Nocturne's secret boss can't charm your healer when the hour long fight is almost over.

Not sure why you're talking about random battles wiping you in Nocturne either. That happens in P3 too if you get a stupid layout on a Tartarus floor. And on some bullshit bosses like the roulette one, unless you look up the way to cheese it.
