The Rain Formerly Known as Purple is my third favorite song of the contest!!! No I'm not going to start impersonating a certain someone but it's no secret that I'm a huge bitch for Chris's music. On the bop/jam/groove/banger graph, Purple sits at the coordinates (0, 0). There are a handful of other songs of his I like even more but still a solid 10.
Planet Wisp is a classic, and the kind of thing I would have expected to retire within a year of the game's release. Somehow Board 8 as a community decided it was not worthy of being in the contest until now. For shame.
Heartless Being is a Camellia song.

Twelfth Chapter could have easily been "just another dissonant thing" but once it starts just randomly cutting out I just lose my mind and it's great. really just not feeling its opponent.
Very close second match. Planet Wisp has very nice sound and just gets a bit repetitive for my liking.
Despite being "that rhythm game guy" I'm not really a big Camellia fan - a lot of his stuff is too chaotic seemingly for the sake of it - but his two songs in the bracket are pretty cool (which I mean one was my nom so). IDTGA is "cute" but not my thing

Don't feel like making an actual writeup. Brief thoughts:

-In the Sky reminds me of Peper Steak from OFF but not as catchy. Works great in its game but not something I want to listen to on its own.
-Not a fan of Vengeful's instrumentation but the Sonic song, while pleasant, is kinda boring.
-Too many wubs. Way too many wubs. Too bad, since I liked most of the rest of what Heartless Being was doing, and I don't care about the Cook Serve Delicious song much.

MATCH 1

The Rain Formerly Known As Purple isn't exactly my type of song, but I like it. It's a pleasant song with a nice mood. Can't go wrong with that! Seems like it would be nice music to vibe to while playing this game.

Can't say the same about Twelfth Chapter, unfortunately. I can appreciate unconventional songs in the right context, but here, it's not the kind of "weird" I can get behind. I think the part I like the most (and even then, it's not that much) is that repeating high-pitched part starting at 0:28. But I don't like how that gets interrupted later on throughout the song in what feels like you're opening the pause menu for a game. Honestly, pretty much everything in this song except for that one part I mentioned is something I don't like about the song, so this is a pretty easy match.

MATCH 2

Simple, but good! That's how I'd sum up Planet Wisp (Act 1). I never get tired of those looping piano chords, which are my favorite part of the song. They create a nice, bright mood to the song. Same goes for the rest of the piano parts as well. Perhaps that's a bit of a theme of Sonic Colors music, because I really like Aquarium Park (Act 1) for the same reason, that it's a nice and bright song. My only complaint with Planet Wisp is that off-key note at 2:32. It's so distracting every time I listen to this haha.

I also like Vengeful God in the Dark Ocean Abyss quite a bit! Whereas Planet Wisp (Act 1) is bright and cheery, this song's dark and dramatic, but I think both songs create those respective moods very well. I think this song makes really good use of harmony and general layering and I like how all the different melodies sound when combined together. This was a tough match to decide. Definitely one of the hardest round 1 matches of Bracket A, and they're both pretty good songs too. I decided on Planet Wisp in the end, but I'd be happy with either song winning this match.

MATCH 3

Heartless Being has a nice melody to it. I'm not entirely sold on the dubstep-esque wubs, but I don't really mind them. I don't have a lot to say about this song, but one thing in particular I can point out is that I like that chord change at 1:42. It might be the chord itself that the song moves to, but I just think it's a cool transition. Though amusingly, I find the transition a bit awkward when it moves back at 1:58.

It's Dangerous to Go Alone is pretty nice too! The melody's good here as well. Other people have kinda alluded to this as well, but it has this feel-good poppy charm that I like. This is also a bit of a tough match, but easier to decide than match 2.
