We've had three Lizzo topics in the past week, and they've all got over 100 responses. The general atmosphere seems to be putting her down, calling her a hypocrite and saying she's bringing obesity and disease to her audience.

I'm just sitting here thinking about who must have hurt these people that they're so pissed off and unpleasant about a fat black performer trying to put some positivity into the world. Like Christ, you clearly don't like her, so why don't you spend your time listening to someone who you do appreciate? Why not spend time on something that does enrich your life, rather than something you're clearly bitter about?

IDK. I've been doing a lot of thinking since that topic about her breaking down in tears, and I've been seriously reconsidering my hostility towards her, even if she is obnoxious about wanting to be sexy.

Which was probably her goal, and that's fine, because it worked. I genuinely feel bad and I'm not even one of the people that tells her she should work out. I've just always thought her insistence on being a sex symbol was obnoxious.

You're missing the point entirely. Who says that drinking or smoking is healthy? People are saying it's okay to be fat to the point it's just as bad (if not worse) for your health.

Drinking and smoking is bad! Oh, but eating yourself to death without exercise is totally okay.

I don't hate her. Not a fan of her music, doesn't mean hate necessarily.

Wasn't aware that anyone "hated" her really. I always thought the number of people who took her as a sort of "meme" outnumbered the people who really took her body positivity message as a very obese woman seriously. Am I wrong?

Beauty is subjective. Are you saying I'm hateful because I disagree with their idea of beauty? Maybe you should say that people who don't bathe or brush their teeth smell like roses? Some people like the smell of half-smoked cigarettes and B.O. You're hateful if you say they smell bad.

How you like that logic?

That logic is stupid because someone being fat doesn't affect you in any way. People that smell have a negative effect on people. It's generally unpleasant. Even with that, I wouldn't go out of my way to bully that person.

If you're negatively affected by seeing a fat person and you feel the need to bully them then you're an asshole no matter what stupid "logic" you feel the need to throw out here.

Dont hate her, but I dont like her either.

I dont like people who try to spread the idea that the physical state of being fat is okay or a good thing.

Especially when we look at our own rapidly increasing obesity rates in this country. It is already considered a national health crisis and has been proven without retort as extremely detrimental to health and life expectancy.

Lizzo is part of this problem and as someone in the public eye she should have more self awareness of the impact she has on this crisis.

Oprah isn't really relevant to the type of people that bitch about Lizzo on message boards, though. Lizzo's celebrity status is fresh and prominent right now, while Oprah's is only ever in the public eye anymore when she's interviewing someone or you see a book club sticker on a book.
