Seriously some of the cheesiest dialogue I've ever endured and please don't give me any bs about it being campy or "self aware"

Also please stfu about Kano! Yes he was faithful to character, yes he was the only actor with any competence, his performance was still Power Ranger villain tier.

This whole film seemed like it was marketed for 12 year olds, despite the excessive blood and gore. I almost felt like I should have been eating a big bowl of sugary cereal while watching.

They took a big shit on Liu Kang, Raiden was lame af and old. The fights scenes were shot like they were in Batman Begins. The special effects and shots had Made for TV written all over them, this seriously could have aired on The CW and been appropriate.

I have so many more complaints but this topic is already too long. Honestly fuck this movie

There has been one video game based movie to date that was anything more then a seven. (Detective Pikachu)

People are sick of video game movies being treated like dung. In the 90s this was fine because video games were still mainly for teenagers and little kids.

Now that its a billion dollar industry theres no excuse for these garbage projects.

I liked it. Main gripe was making some characters magical when they didn't have to be

Jax having the power to create metal arms or Sonya being able to shoot energy beams instead of it coming from high tech military equipment or Kano shooting lasers before getting cybernetic eyes.

I enjoy when humans use technology to keep up with monsters and mystical powers.

They hyped it up to be this good MK movie but in reality it was bullshit, I have not seen it and will wait for it to be on tv for free.

It's still an enjoyable flick imo, but the one thing that really fucking urks me is that it makes sense for Shang Tsung to break the rules of the tournament, but it doesn't make any fucking sense why Raiden doesn't do anything about it. He doesn't even "consult with the elder gods" about it, even when he caught Shang Tsung breaking the rules red handed. This kept bothering me as I was watching the movie.

If hollywood had nuts, they would start this series with The Great Kung Lao. First movie can cover his first win over Shang Tsung. Then go into how Shang Tsung starts corrupting the tournament and end with Goro's win.

Second film would start off with Goro's win streak until we are introduced to our main kharacters from MK1.

I hate how people pretend a movie is good when it's not just because hey like the franchise it's part of.

Case in point, the original MK movie is awful, and not even "b-movie bad, so it's good". It's just plain shit. Yet you have nostalgic nerds who claim it's watchable, when it's not.

I rewatched it last night, and I'm not as annoyed with it as I initially was. Biggest gripes for me were the completely unnecessary changes; Arcana could have worked for a few characters, but Jax, Kano and Sonya shouldnt have markings, No actual MK tournament, and mostly; No real MK fights aside from Scorpion/Sub-Zero.

Other than that (and a lot of that's because I'm a huge fan of the series), it was pretty good for a "Turn your brain off" movie. I look forward to a sequel.

That's what made that Raiden cool. He managed to turn "Nah ah ah, I don't think so." into a memorable quote. But you're right in that it would be a different movie all together, but they could've added in some kind of throwaway line like "Well Shang Tsung is technically not a God so the rules don't apply". The only thing we get was "Elder Gods are too lazy to do anything" or something along those lines which still doesn't make sense because Raiden still doesn't do jack about it. In fact MK95 movie wasn't a great flick, but it was iconic because I still remember scenes from that movie even over 15 years from watching it. The only thing memorable about this movie was some cool fight scenes and Kano.

It was a fun watch for me, it is supposed to be ridiculous like the games.

i havent seen it but mortal kombat or any video game movie (or a lot of movies) dont have to aspire towards "high brow" standards to be a good movie. "high theater" standards are completely irrelevant here, if the movie is entertaining and enjoyable for the most part, then fuck yeah.

if mortal kombat annihilation had some Shakespearean dialogue it'd definitely be funnier but would that in itself make it an overall good movie rather than the bag of shit it is? hell no

I liked the action and cheesy dialogue. Didn't like the original character Cole Young tho. Was a bit rushed at the end but I enjoyed it overall. Looking forward to a sequel.

I really have to disagree with you. Detective Pikachu was the first movie I ever saw in a theater that I disliked. I feel like Sonic did everything Detective Pikachu was going for, but better.

Given where the bar is set, I think his portrayal was okay. It's kinda sad that simply getting offense is an improvement over the first one.

Goros presentation was much better this time around. But failed to ackowledge hisbfominance in the tournament. Honestly he went out like a bitch in the new one. At least in the first he was owning people.

In the new film, Goro wasn't Shang Tsung's right hand(s) man. That role went to Sub-Zero.

It's kinda funny. The scene where Liu Kang spams the sweep attack proves that someone working on the movie played the video game before. The but the overall character arrangement makes it feel like they just went through a catalog and picked out the characters they thought looked cool.

"Ooh, guy in a mask who runs fast. He'd make a good opponent for that Lou Chang character."

Who thought anyone wanted to see Nitara of all possible characters?

I also wasn't a fan of Reptile.

Oh shit, I totally forgot about the completely ass cheeks encounter with CGI reptile.

Yeah fuck the cool ass, poison and illusion magic welding green ninja from the games. Let's have basically the horrible CGI monster from The Amazing Spiderman make a guest appearance.

Not to mention that outside of the admittedly dope intro with Scorpion and SubZero, that garbage Reptile fight is the only real fight scene we get for like the first 45 minutes of the film.

The rest of the time is spent on unnecessary backstory and filler, with the Sonya character giving exposition dialogue while looking like a dear in headlights the entire time no matter what is happening.

Jesus Christ fuck this movie
