Yeah, current Homer would have been like 5 or 6 when The Simpsons debuted

What's Homer's canon age now? 35 I think? The writers change the ages of Homer and Marge so they don't feel so damn old lol

It was 34 (?) in the early days, but I think it's about 38 or 39 now.

I always imagined Homer and Marge as being mid-late 40s, having had kids late. I know this isn't actually right, but they don't come across as being in their 30s at all.

So did I. I mean I could buy Homer being in his mid-30s but he aged hard if he is.

I been watching through the series... it's not hitting me like I thought it would. Especially for someone who has Futurama S1-4 in his tops. Maybe I'm not in the right frame of mind.

The original timeline was always kind of odd.
We know that Homer and Marge got married pretty much right out of HS and neither went to college.

Yet at 10 that means Bart was born after they had already been married for some time, especially if Homer/Marge are in their late 30s.

and yet, IIRC Bart was conceived out of wedlock and that's what convinced them to get married

Homer even says Bart was the reason they had to get married in one episode...
"We can't let Bart force us apart! He's the reason we had to get married."

You can tell from her voice that Marge smoked a lot. So mid/late 30s is realistic for them tbh

Lmao at them being millennials though, just cancel the show already

Sometimes I wish the show aged characters in real time. It might have been interesting. Yea people would die but we would also get new characters and see new situations for existing ones. Like an episode about Maggie's first day at school. Or Bart getting married

I see Bart becoming a deadbeat and unmarried, Lisa in a career with two kids, and Maggie being a journalist. Homer and Marge are happily retired. Grandpa Simpson is dead.

That's how I see The Simpsons in 2021 if they had aged in real time.

I always disliked this take in the later "future" episodes

Bart being a deadbeat is so uncreative, I liked it better when he had a job as a demolitions expert
