I mean there are pedophiles who just follow instagram models and browse Instagram for pictures to look at, or tik tok. I tend to have problems with Trumpism. His tactics were to demonize everyone against others and make himself out to be the only option against these "demons". It is a gross strategy and calls to the worst in humans.

I think a lot of Republicans are good people who just want to ensure a certain society is around them. I think most of them are judgemental and thinks that people who don't agree with them are stupid or evil.

I believe that aside from removing their ability to become sexually aroused, there is no way to help them overcome their urges. It is an unfortunate situation since they were born the way they are and there really isn't anything they can do about it, but, it is what it is.

My dad was a pedophile who molested me and my younger sister, and who knows how many other children. I could write a whole big thing about all of it but I'll just say, he knew he had a problem and couldn't get help because of the (understandable) intolerance and outrage people generally have on the topic. Would being able to freely seek and receive help have changed anything? I don't know, but I do know that the conventional approach only drove him to the shadows and all but guaranteed he was going to offend sooner or later.

The amount of pedophiles experiencing undue discrimination and stigma despite doing their due diligence to recognize their issues and keep up with treatment is likely so close to zero that it isnt actually a societal level problem.

Individually yes, we shouldnt damn a person if they are getting help with it, but the overwhelming majority dont and pedophilia, unlike other disorders, isnt something that precludes ones ability to recognize that they are abnormal.

Because they dont recognize they have a problem when they should. The general stigma against mental health issues in the US is naturally related, but that issue is pervasive to all mental health issues, not just pedophilia.

If we're speaking to one specific issue, it isnt productive to make a whataboutism to a far larger problem that isnt unique to what we're actually talking about.

And again, unlike a great deal of other issues, pedophilia doesnt cloud ones judgement. They are not inherently "bad" for feeling the way they do, but they are being deliberately irresponsible by not seeking treatment.

Case in point, Ive been suicidal since I was 8 years old and suffer both from MDD and PTSD. These are the primary reasons I do not allow myself to drink, do drugs, nor buy a gun, and all the while, these are issues that do cloud my ability to be responsible in regards to not acting on the damaging aspects of my disorders, and I only got there because I worked at it and was honest with myself.

Is it possible that seeking help for pedophilia conveys more risk than seeking help for other illnesses, particularly because of the preconceptions about pedophilia that you highlight, and that are highlighted by the overall response to this thread?

Oddly enough, it wasn't even the molestation that was the worst part. He somehow, astoundingly, proved to be a bigger piece of shit than anyone ever imagined possible during the fallout. I never forgave him for anything but I can see where his inclination towards children was an involuntary affliction that he at least tried to remedy at one point and have a little bit of pity for him over that. The rest of his flaws had nothing to do with that and I think he was just destined to be a piece of shit regardless.

Anyway, if it makes you feel better, he experienced a slow, agonizing death and finally kicked the bucket earlier this month.
