When Joe Biden met with a group of mayors and governors last week he bluntly told them to get ready for a legislative defeat: his proposed minimum wage hike was unlikely to happen, he said, at least in the near term. I really want this in there but it just doesn't look like we can do it because of reconciliation, Biden told the group, according to a person in the room. Im not going to give up. But right now, we have to prepare for this not making it. The comments, which were confirmed by two other people familiar with the conversation, were the furthest Biden has gone in conceding the coming axing of the $15-an-hour minimum wage provision from his first major legislative package. And they suggest that the president is more inclined to manage the fallout of it not being included than to pursue long-shot, political-capital consuming efforts to fight for its insertion.

she will be old enough to run, but the point was that he is clearly setting up the future for AOC and ppl like that. So being unreasonable when hes trying to do historys most important balancing act...is just way too pessimistic for me.

The nature of what he has signed so far and AOC's ideas becoming more prominent amongst the D party are very good indications. It's still contentious but the Green New Deal will happen within single-digit years at this rate. :) Just track the rate at which public approval for it has gone up, relative to how public approval went up for other things shortly before widespread adoption - gay marriage, even trans rights (we can see this happening now), and most recently race justice (after George Floyd murder)

There are many reasons to be optimistic, amongst them the simple fact that we SHOULD be optimistic if there's still a chance to succeed as a species.

And that's imo where Marx was wrong - we need to leverage religion to spread worker solidarity and progressive values, that's the point of my sig. Bernie would have done a lot of the same actions as Biden is doing right now, maybe a bit more bold. But they fundamentally both would be similar, because we cannot risk too much friction at first. Gotta get things stable, lay the groundwork for elevating society, and then when people see that there's nothing to fear...be even bolder! Green New Deal, etc.

This is actually a good post. One reason American Evangelicals often buy into bootstraps is a misapplication of the parable of the talents which was popularized I believe by the Puritans.

Also, Paul talks about if one does not work he should not eat, except that verse was explicitly talking about apostles and people like Paul doing the work of the church being fed for doing that.
That is, it is taken out of context where the verse prior he says he took no one's food for free but labored as an apostle to be worthy of it.

Jesus would have been a Marxist or a democratic socialist (leftism minus the incorrect parts of early Marxism). The Big Oil billionaire machine (like Kenneth Copeland) co-opted religion to prevent the workers from experiencing class consciousness together.

They also co-opted atheism (Lawrence Krauss, Stephen Hawking, etc) to make it about dividing us against religious/atheistic lines. (They were all on Epstein's island, do some googling, it's wild and obvious to me what's been going on)
