That's a really big condo round these parts.

Mine is around 1000 sqft, 2 beds 2 bath, parking+storage and was over half a mill.

Had to buy it alone, though. Although I'm jelly, I'm more so happy for your success. Congrats :)

Nice, and thanks! This place includes a storage space as well, but only permitted street parking. I haven't owned a car since 2015 though, so a deeded parking space wasn't a priority for me.

$500K though, oof! I offered $365K on this condo. Inspection report came back yesterday and we're going to ask for a few repair credits.

This adulting shit ain't easy. I recognize my privilege in having so many family, friends and colleagues as a support system along the way. Despite all that, I still manage to pysche myself out in whether I can do this. I don't want to be caught with my pants down, but there's so much that I don't know yet.

Its definitely nerve wracking, even after the inspection came back clean I'm worried I'm going to find out some glaring issue with the place that will give me grief for the rest of my life.

Or my life falls apart and I lose the place. My safety net went towards the down payment.

Also, the problem of having to make decisions on furnishings. Not a big deal but still something I have to deal with that I didn't before.

If you see anything cool you have to let me know.

I feel this one, too. I won't be penniless after closing, but I'll need to build up my cash reserves again ASAP to be at a level I feel comfortable with in case of emergencies (6 months of expenses).

And I've been thinking extra hard about furnishing and decorating! But I have to remind myself that I don't need to repaint and replace everything as soon as I move in. I'm better off settling in for a bit and taking notes of things I'd like to see changed to meet my preferences.

Hell yeah, home ownership. Living alone was a bit daunting at first, but now, I miss having a little bit of companionship now and then. That and watch for the ghosts.

Oh I love living alone. Been flying solo since my senior year of undergrad. I could see myself getting a second cat in the future...

It's nice not to deal with others and have total control of what you want to do with your house. Keeps your bills low, too.

Illinois is not bad, but it depends on where you are. I'm in the St. Louis area of it and there is not much to do outside of bars, shopping, and food.

I'm in Chicago, best city I've lived in. Love the cultural amenities, relative affordability, and the public transit. Just gotta get through the pandemic so I can go to live concerts again!

Oh man, there's so much! You can get a lot done on foot if you're up for it and visit when the weather is nice. The classic tourist spots are downtown: The Bean sculpture, the Art Institute, Sears Tower (it's officially called Willis Tower now, but you'll get local cred for calling it Sears). The Chicago architecture boat tours are highly recommended to visitors and locals alike. From there you can walk to Navy Pier, or even along one of the lakeshore beaches. The lakefront is such a huge perk of the city.

But Chicago is truly awesome because of all the different neighborhoods within the city borders, each with their own kind of scene to offer in terms of local business and nightlife. You'll also have no problem finding good-ass food, anywhere you go!

For sure! It'd be a fun weekend trip from STL for a group of friends. I moved to Chicago for school almost 5 years ago without knowing a damn thing about it, and fell in love with the place. Happy to talk over PM about other recommended hot spots!

I've only spent a week in Chicago, but I like it. The architecture is cool, there's a lot of fantastic food, and every person I met was nice. Also, I've traveled to a lot of places around the country and I'm pretty sure for a big city Chicago has the least amount of homeless people. So they must be doing something right there. It was also cold as fuck while I was there. So maybe all the ones who don't get shipped out to California just freeze to death. Anyway, I definitely want to come back one day. Ideally if I had the money I'd propose to my girlfriend after a nice dinner at Alinea.

Chicago is awesome but its so expensive. Taxes and inflated prices in general.

Sucks that you guys will miss St. Patrick's day again, its one of the best things about the city.

Compared to the other major metropolitan cities, it is so much more affordable. I sent my condo listing to a colleague in NYC and she got a bit jealous >_>

I know my money could go further in other places, but then I'd give up the things I love about city living. The taxes and pension liabilities are definitely a real issue, though. Fiscal mismanagement has left the state in junk bond status.

I can't argue with that.

Walking around Chicago when I lived there was amazing, I probably would have lost weight from it if it weren't for Lou Malnati's.

Are you enough in the city to be able to walk to work?

Nah, but the CTA is great. Gets me to work in 30-35 minutes. I haven't been riding it during pandemic times, though--my job went to 100% telework last March and moved out of its physical office space in August.

I use to try to do that with my house when I was a kid. But I was so bad at it. When I got older, I would ask my Godsister to help me build the house since she was better at it...

When I first read this I thought Godsister was in relation to her Sims 4 ability and not the religious concept.

Yep I started last night! It's annoying that you can't make vertical half walls still. Getting the square footage proportions close to accurate is frustrating

I guess I dont really use it in the religious aspect. Her mother was my Godmother when I was younger was all... But I use to hang out with her a lot when I was younger...
