Friday night an ice storm took down lots of trees and killed the power. Since I have well water I need to power a pump to get running water. We've had to get water from the creek until today. The power company has no eta on power restoration.

Today I drove 4 hours up the road to Seattle to buy a generator and get supplies. Got a crap ton of bottles water and a ton of fuel and propane too. The generator I got was able to get the internet running and can run a space heater. We will be more comfortable now but we still don't have running water for bathing or cleaning so we all stink

In the future you could stock up on some Wet Ones wipes for your smellier areas. Obviously not as hygienic as a shower but its better than nothing if your water is out.

I know the feel kinda. Went 7 without during hurricane Katrina cept it was fucking muggy as hell rather than cold. We couldnt really bathe or wash dishes but we collected rain water so we could flush the toilets. You could melt snow for that reason too. Mother did that back when I was a kid during the rare bad snow we got. We had kerosene heaters though. Which we would also use to heat up canned food.

I feel for you. We have had it 5hat bad before and had to go stay in our hunting cabin that has a well and wood burning stove. Our power flickered on and off yesterday morning but is holding so far. Many people have lost it or had pipes to burst. So far we have 8 inches of snow here on our mountain in northwest Arkansas and it is still coming. Lol, they are forecasting it to be 60 next Tuesday. The Weather Gods are drunk.

I recently bought one of these on clearance at Sam's Club for $199:

https://smile.amazon.com/Handy-Power-Resistant-Generator-Emergency/dp/B08DZ1Q7JH/

It hooks up to your car and will generate 1500W continuous, 3000W surge. That's enough power to run a refrigerator, a gas furnace, a space heater, a television or radio, a crockpot, power tools, a CPAP or oxygen concentrator, a computer and monitor, lamps, or various other household appliances (though not all at the same time, of course). And unlike a dedicated generator, there's no extra maintenance beyond what you'd normally do for your car anyway.

California is starting to look good. All we have to do is get rid of Newsom and make houses that cant burn.

We're on Day 3 here (bit north of Houston). No energy, no water, half inch of ice on the roads, and about 4 inches of snow. My girlfriend and I are running out of supplies and candles, so we're probably going to make the 3 mile walk today to the store.

Oh, I thought this was part of that rolling blackout thing in Texas other people had been complaining about. Yeah, that's a lot worse part of the country to be without power. I still remember the 10 days I was without after Superstorm Sandy, which was one of several storms within a few years to knock out my power for a while.

And despite losing power multiple times, I still haven't bought a generator.

Glad the baby is doing well. I hate the thought of a baby in a cold house
