Her chances pretty much went to 0 now that Pyra and Mythra are in.

Well yes, but she might get a costume alt lol. I would be happy with that
Her chances were virtually 0 anyway. If Xenosaga trilogy HD were to hit switch that would rise, but without that she never really had a chance

Miitopia is such a weird thing to port considering the Switch basically abandoned the idea of Mii functionality. I mean, you can still make them, but they're not prominent at all anymore so where was the demand for this?

Okay, so I just got done with the direct and while it wasn't as great as I hoped, there were some bright points. Here are my thoughts -

--- Pyra and Mythra are great. I totally thought it would be a sequel to Xenoblade 2, lol. This is funny because so many people were hoping for Rex and Pyra, but with Rex already a Mii Fighter, I thought there was no way Xenoblade would show up in Smash again. This is a fine way around that.

Now I am convinced that KOS-MOS will be a Mii Fighter.

--- Famicom Detective Club seems odd enough to be cool

--- Legend of Mana - kind of cool but this one always seemed odd compared to Secret of Mana.

--- Monster Hunter Rise looks cool. And the Special edition switch looks nice.

--- I haven't seen Mario Golf in a long time. RPG lite story mode has me intrigued. Speed golf looks like it has potential to be a lot of fun. Wario's cowboy hat is great.

--- Miitopia??? Why??

--- A Tactical RPG - Oh, now this looks right up my alley! Project Triangle Strategy? Is this by the same guys that did Project Octopath? Now this could be great! This looks like a real spiritual successor to FFT and Tactics Ogre. And they want player feedback from the demo. This one looks like it could really be awesome!!!

--- That Dodge Ball game would have been a LOT cooler if those stereotypical characters (like the Orc and princess) that were playing the game were actually characters IN the game. That would actually be amusing. I thought they would be characters in the game - Like EA'S All Star multiplayer game

--- And there it is - the Skyward Sword remake. It's one of the few Zelda games I haven't played yet, so I don't know if the button only controls are a big deal or not. Those Zelda joycons will be a hot resale item.

---And for the big finale... Splatoon? 3? Okay.... whatever.

So, overall , not a ton for me to get excited about, but at least there are a few things to look forward to. from most hyped to least for me, this is what I am looking forward to -

I adore Splatoon's style and overall aesthetic but I've bounced right off of those games even after four earnest attempts to get into them. The gameplay itself is even pretty darn fun but Nintendo's online experience is just so darn miserable to deal with and the entire game is based around that.

Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game and one of my favorite games ever, but besides the addition of button controls this seems like the laziest HD port yet. Each one gets lazier than the last. I hope there's at least more tweaks we don't know about yet.

The big tweak with TP HD was shortening the tutorial, right? Getting rid of all the extra helpful tips in SS would be nice.

Hopefully they make the tadpole section better somehow too.

Also shortening the divine tears sections. They tightened the pacing in both previous HD versions so Im sure theyll do it here too.

Of course both WWHD and TPHD had complete visual overhauls as well and so far Skyward Sword HD just looks like Skyward Sword.

I had fun with online Splatoon for a little while back in the first one. It'd be so cool to have local co-op with that. That'd a really fun game to play with friends over instead of online imo. I did really enjoy the story mode of it thoguh. It was short, but really nice and I wish there was more of it. Had a lot of Nintendo charm. When the second one came I bought it just to play another story mode. It was still fun, but not as good. It felt more rushed and the levels were much less unique. They tried making them seem less by forcing you to use specific different weapons, but it was the same and I didn't find it as fun.

I'm interested in a third though, the trailer gave me hope that there might be some single player mode worth playing. Local multiplayer would also be enough for me to get it itself.

Elma would have been a good character because smash is missing all of Xenoblade X's music. Plus a poc woman.
Lori would have been good because she has that whip, also she is a legit enjoyable character
Kos-Mos obviously would have been a great pic. Not only a Xeno-rep but also just a rep for the niche-rpgs of the aughts and early tens.

Then you go down the list and that one blade was was basically a naked women with a bunny tail is second from the bottom for best possible xeno reps

then right after that at the bottom is Pyra/Mythra

this is like Byleth, where not only does it not suck for fans of the series, but it sucks WORSE for people who are fans of the series because we got a lame rep

I would've much preferred Rex as like a Pokemon Trainer style character. Give him, Pyra/Mythra, Roc, and Nia___. Yes of course it's dumb to spoil that third one, but Smash does enjoy spoiling Xenoblade so it's tradition.

Alternatively you could spoil it in a different way by giving him Pyra/Mythra and some combination of Dromarch, Brighid, or Pandoria.

Or just give us Tora and Poppi and everyone wins.

They put KOS-MOS in Xenoblade 2, so even if they don't fully own her, whoever does (Namco?) is still open to letting her be used in a Nintendo-owned property.

Eh, I'd argue no since ARMS doesn't really have a main character. It does have characters that are used in the advertising more (Spring Man and Ribbon Girl), but they were already used in some capacity in Smash.

Especially in the case of something like Kos-mos who most players won't even see.

Pokemon does it all the time. Main characters are almost always chosen because they are also the best choice for the first representative. But, for the cases where they aren't, they can be passed over.

In the case of KOS-MOS, she also has Xenosaga not just her small appearance in Xenoblade 2. If there was going to be a character added from Xenosaga, it would be KOS-MOS because she makes the most sense.

Eh, I disagree with this to an extent. There is no "main character" Pokemon outside of Pikachu, but they definitely go with the more front and center ones. They go with starters and legendaries over like, something random like Victreebel. The only cases they deviated were Lucario and Jigglypuff, but Lucario was the main focus of a movie at the time and Jigglypuff was used heavily in the anime.

And yeah, KOS-MOS is the main character of Xenosaga, but arguing they should've chose KOS-MOS over Pyra/Mythra suggests choosing her for XC2 representation, and choosing her as XC2 representation would be like choosing Yanma for the next Pokemon.

Almost no one wants KOS-MOS specifically as a Xenoblade 2 representative. Like her fans won't really complain if that loophole is played but that's not really the reason they want her in. The competition isn't over being a Xenoblade 2 representative. The competition is over the fact it is unlikely that there will both be a Xenosaga and Xenoblade character as part of FP2.

This feels like more of a technicality. They went with using the Pokemon directly from the beginning since it made more sense since the Pokemon do the fighting. And they even added Red as soon as they figured out how to make the trainer thing work. Choosing Pikachu over Red isn't really comparable to the overall point because there's an actual reason for it and not just them deciding to not use the main character.

??? Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, bowser jr, sheik, piranha plant, every pokemon (save pikachu and pokemon trainer for sake of argument) Dark Samus, Dark Pit, Falco, Wolf, isabelle, Daisy

and sakurai himself has said he thinks a roster of only "heroes" is boring.

ALSO, literally all the people I recommended were main characters
