That sounds like stuff they could've just told you about the day of. There was a thread on here not too long ago where the TC (a mod here I think) was a supervisor who texted the employee to come in for a meeting the first morning after the weekend. The employee felt the vibe and said they'll return their work stuff, letting themselves go due to prior performance issues.

I feel the exact same way. If its my day off, I dont want to think about work and I dont need a random text to remind me to be stressed about something. The worst is them begging you to work on your day off because they literally act like I dont have other stuff to do or like I dont need to recharge and rest.

Teachers get given phones? First I've heard of it, and I've been teaching for 7 years now.

But as for the topic, my current boss wouldn't dream of contacting me at the weekend. My last boss did and just got told not to call me at the weekend again unless somebody died or was in the process of doing so. He didn't call me again, at the weekend or otherwise.

Maybe it's different here but it's one of the top 20 schools in the country I work at. Phones were optional before covid but once lockdown was happening work phones were mandatory for privacy reasons like if they need to ring a parent

I don't know any teachers who have been given phones. We just use 141 when we call parents. Doesn't cause any problems and we have to call everybody each week.

Some parents refused to pick up calls from blanked numbers so I had them just give a phone to all the teachers/admin

Unless it's an emergency, there's no permitting contacting people personally for work reasons over personal phone.

We have lockdown here including schools being closed mostly so that's why I had them give out phones.

The media would tell you that we're closed here but we're still open to children of key workers and those who are most vulnerable, so our workload just gets casually doubled.

Until there's covid in another year group and then it gets bigger.

I mean it might differ by country but the principal here literally was one of the three in the country that refused to open the school if the government decided to open them despite the 1000+ cases daily

Yeah, it was a small-ish grocery store. Dude was a coked out nutjob, and regularly brought strippers into the back office to "party".

I didn't outright quit until he made me clean up garbage. He refused to pay the waste management bill, and once they finally picked it up, there was still garbage lying around the dumpster. I was the only person he sent out there in 90+ degree, with only a shovel and no PPE to clean it up.

After I quit, my parents asked why, and they were slack-jawed when I just named stuff off, and they never shopped there again. They weren't home when he came over either.

if you are not a salaried employee, then any work, even something as simple as answering a call or reading a text from your employer when you are not on the clock is against company policy unless you are fairly compensated for it.

If the banging was disruptive enough it can be disorderly conduct but there's nothing illegal about simply knocking on someone's door. On a personal level though after such an event I'd be looking for another job ASAP

I believe the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) states that they can text/email you but you aren't required to respond unless it's an emergency or you're considered "on call." If you do get emails and texts and such that you are continuously told you must reply to you can bring it up with HR. At least here in the US

If you're not feeling well Sunday night, it's an asshole move to make you contact me Monday morning that youre not coming in. Just throw me a text. It's not like I need to have a conversation about it.
