It's significantly better than 5 and 6. I might even like it more than 4 and could consider it my favorite in the series. It's definitely a big step forward in the right direction.

imo 5 is still worth playing if you're a fan of the story/lore. 6 has nothing redeamble, is the worst in the series, and can safely be skipped.

RE7 is different.

It felt like more of a tech demo to lay a strong foundation for a future good game. I like that it's not an action series again, that's awesome, but the exploration was still pretty terrible as the "world" was so small and linear. I hated that more than it going all casual in 4-6. I had more fun with the little Village demo, as it seems like it's bringing back the exploration.

5 is only good if you have a friend to play through it with the whole time. I played through the first time only when my friend(s) were over so we can coop through, and we had a blast. Then I tried soloing it with the AI the second time, and I couldn't finish it.

7 is amazingly good. I wouldn't say it's as good as 4, but it's amazing how well the first person camera works in RE.

7 is barely an RE game but it's really good regardless. The big points of what made RE successful - horror, survival, limited inventory/weapons, goofy puzzles, and fun bad guys are all there but because it's moved into a first person perspective it can be a little jarring to what we've experienced over the past how ever many RE games. And the story of course strays pretty signficantly from the mainline story but given where it ended up in 6, that's not really a bad thing.

I've stayed away from anything about 8 because I want to be fresh when it comes out, but 7 was one the best games I've played in recent years.

If you want something that's strictly Resident Evil, the two recent remakes are incredibly good. If you want something that changes up the formula a bit and adds something new, play RE7.

Or play all of them. I'm not your dad.

I enjoyed playing through 5 solo. It wasn't as good as 4, but I didn't have to too many issues with it (as far as I can recall). 7 is great, especially if you can play it in VR; significantly ramps up the tension. Way less action than the previous few entries, though.

RE7 is about 100x better than 6, about 10x than 5, and about 2x better than the 2 remake, and about 1000x better than the 3 remake

citation: played em all

edit: I have hard feelings towards the 3 remake. It was too short and with too little content (the RE2 remake had MANY alternate modes)

I enjoyed it. The vibe is different but in a good way. The Baker family are the highlight.

6 seemed very short to me. I can't remember how long any of the other games were, (and, I had to play on Amateur because my PC has input lag), but 6 seemed extremely short. And I was really tripping on the fact they were dealing with the C-virus (I know, it came out an eon ago, but I'm very behind on all things gaming, sadly)

other than that, it's... ok for someone that has nothing to do

It's good to hear 7 is good though, I don't know anything about it

It's alright. A positive step in the right direction for the series, but not sure why everyone thinks it's so amazing.

Almost like they should have remade the originals the way they were akin to REmake or something...

I think in this case I'm asking about a stand-alone.... I mean, I played 4 but I have no idea what happened to Wesker and stuff

Play re5 for that

and RE7 is standalone. You don't need to know any of the other games

The trick to enjoying solo RE5 is to give the AI just the pistol and all the ammo for it and use the other weapons for yourself. Wasn't too bad playing like that.

7 makes me so damn tense in VR. I'm not normally one to get scared by much, but with it in VR I am really on edge.

7 has atmosphere but it's shallow. The atmosphere only lasts for the first playthrough, after that you're left with a flat experience that's not really worth revisiting. RE games have a reputation for replay value and I just don't think 7 has any.

I did really enjoy that first play though, it scared the hell out of me and I liked the story.

My guess is he is referring to the adaptive difficulty, and adaptive item drops. Prior 4, every game had a finite amount of ammo, and health items. 4 had adaptive item drops, if the game felt you where too low on ammo or meds, it dropped more. I think some of them also reduced enemy damage if you died to often.

Disagree...

  • RE5 Is basically a Reskinned RE4 with Chris, Africa and Sheva as a Partner...but its a very good game (atmoshpere, settings, etc) and the Storyline relates to the Main RE story moreso than RE4, IMO
  • RE6 (which I'm currently playing) like most say, is probably the 'worst' in the series...I mean, it's not a terrible game per say, but with bland UI/Title/Menus, goofy control schemes and Awkward QT scenarios that pops up outta nowhere during some Cutscenes, it felt like it was a rushed game Capcom wanted to get out at the end of the life of the PS3. They made the Controls to be more 'Action-y', but the Game Level Design doesn't allow it to be feasable (Dark areas, confined spaces, etc) And story wise it's kinda thin (with the exception of some throwbacks to previous RE characters). But the Mercs side quests are pretty cool.
  • Haven't played RE7 yet (probably will get it after I finish the final 'Chris' Campaign in RE6), but I'm not a big fan of FPS so I hope it will still be enjoyable. The reviews been pretty good, and I heard it was similar to 'Outlast'...
