Well that's simply not true lol. If I hear someone in my home and blow a hole in their chest before they can do wtfever they broke in for, I'd say that offers me a tremendous advantage over, say, a golf club.
If I so much as hear a door being opened I can grab a gun and be ready for whatever, there's a firearm in almost every room in my house.

Let me ask you this: if you were a thief would you rather break into the home of a gun enthusiast, or the home of a pacifist?

Exactly.

Where do you live or what kind of trauma have you experienced that makes you believe having a firearm in every room of your house necessary to be safe? Im 100% pro-gun ownership, but this mindset has never made sense to me.

Do you have a non hypothetical anecdotal source that "owning a gun decreases your risk of being robbed"? Because there's a lot more variables than just "did the robber know you had a gun"

No, because that wasn't the focus of my comment and I feel like you know that. The point, which I feel you're conveniently ignoring, is owning a gun offers a tremendous advantage and absolutely decreases your odds of being hurt in a home invasion vs not having one. This is not hard. Here's the quote again, bolded for you.

seankimberley42 posted...
gun ownership has no relationship to whether you get robbed, the successfulness of the robbery or whether youll be injured in said robbery.

Amazing how you missed that to focus on the one point which is arguable (simply owning a gun decreasing the odds of being robbed).

It's usually parental abuse. Typically from a step-father.

Like maybe if you lived in one of the worst neighborhoods of a huge city like Chicago, NY, or LA, or out in the middle of nowhere where police response time is basically "hope you are still alive in 45 minutes when we get there". Or you had a job that put you in an adversarial position against gangs, cartels, or other organized crime. Other than that, I can't really see a scenario where one would need a gun in every room of their house.

Has nothing to do with trauma. I like guns, they're cool, and I like having them around. Handgun in the bedroom, shotgun in the living room, rifles on the wall of the great room, etc. As a fellow gun owner I'm sure you can appreciate that a firearm is completely useless if you cannot get to it.

And there it is. I have a 3k sqft house in the middle of nowhere. Muliple entry points, and while there is a police station next door, the nearest hospital is 20 miles away. If a gun can keep me and my family from being harmed and possibly dying in the half hour it would take to get to the ER, thats a wise investment imo.

I also said nearly every room has a firearm, not all of them. To be fair, my house has 5 bedrooms, 1.5 kitchens, 2.5 bath and 3 living rooms lol.

How exactly would you like it proven that having a firearm >>>>> not having one when faced with an intruder? Oh, I know: how about the very case we're talking about? That kids chances of being hurt by the intruder went to exactly zero after, you know, shooting him

A) There's cases of robbers seeing an owner with a gun and firing leading to injury/death that might not have happened if there hadn't been a gun in most rooms.
B) I'd like you to prove it through statistics or even one study (like I asked in my first post)

It also wouldnt have happened if the robber wasnt, you know, robbing the house.

Youre being highly disingenous about what actually lead to a shooting in that scenario.

Ruvan22 posted...

The point is moot as it was always a bad argument. Guns arent there to make you safer, they're there to help you defend yourself. Youre literally not safe if youre having you defend yourself in the first place regardless of what weapon or object you have.

But if someone comes at you with a gun and you have a knife, it doesnt take an academic study to understand the odds are evened out if you also have a gun.

But the fact remains, if self defense is necessary, you are inherently unsafe, but that in turn does not diminish the need and/or want for a gun in such a situation.

The right to self defend is a human right, and unless you can objectively suggest that no potential attacker will have a gun (ie, impossible, especially in the US even with draconian gun bans and seizures), you are infringing on an individuals right by denying them the most commonly used weapon of our day.

If someone breaks into your house, you are 100% legally allowed to shoot and kill them.

LOL @ people saying the kid should be arrested.

Every state has the castle doctrine for homes.

Some states extend castle doctrine to work places & vehicles.

Stand your ground overrides castle doctrine as a more general law. Pretty sure pennsylvania is actually a SYG state.

Oh ok, so you're allowed to infer things in hypothetical situations but others aren't, got it. Prove those robbers wouldn't have fired if they hadn't seen a gun. Works both ways, slick.

Ruvan22 posted...

Again, this very situation. Kid killed a robber, robber has zero chance of hurting kid. Deep, complex stuff i know. Ask a grown up or trusted friend to help walk you through it.
Idk wtf kind of statistics or studies you want or need to prove that gun>>>>>no gun in a defense scenario. The slaughter of the Native Americans and the end of feudal era of Japan comes to mind. Those folks didn't fare so well in a gun vs no gun scenario.
