My hope is he runs in his own party like he talked about forming, not securing the GOP nomination and splitting the Republican voting base. Would be poetic justice to all those traitors who voted to acquit.

why bother having a vote if you think people should face extra-legal repercussions for voting a certain way?

Its horseshit that he was acquitted

Yes.

Create a bipartisan oversight committee from elected officials. Force it to be bipartisan constitutionally (since we're talking about amending the process, this seems like a good place as any to do it), then have the committee in charge of appointing a non partisan jury.

You're just abstracting things from Senators holding the power to Senators picking the people who hold the power, except now with a partisan balance regardless of the Senate's makeup as determined by voters.

Is that an improvement or likely to change any outcomes?

It's an improvement because appointed jurors...

  1. Don't have to run a political campaign where voting a certain way can be used against them.
  2. Aren't concerned with losing an election.
  3. Aren't getting bribes from lobbyists to do something specific.

Mueller was able to convict a bunch of people on crimes.... People ultimately pardoned but being able to secure the conviction means that the regular justice system works and we should use it here.

The house refers a pool of jurors to be appointed along with the articles. If they aren't selected by the committee then they're picked at random.

Who in the House? The party in control? Or is this another bipartisan process?

I'm not asking these questions to be a pain. I just don't think you can create a process that can withstand one major party refusing to go along. Certainly not a bipartisan one.

The US Marshals get a list, the house then votes on a short list. Say everyone gets 5 votes and the top 50 people with the most votes go through. SOTH tiebreaker.

If you don't vote then oh well.

The US Marshals ultimately only answer to SCOTUS so while you go down the chain far enough the people in charge of the US Marshals are appointed by the president they have a sort of abstract detachment from him that makes them mostly immune to executive or legislative meddling.

The US Marshals are generally career law enforcement and aren't really subject to the same biases as the judges. SCOTUS would only really be able to tell them to round up the candidates and present them to the house. They wouldn't sign off on the individual jurors themselves.
