Playing as a kid on the 3DS remake I'd call all the time and it felt like there was endless audio content. Snake and Zero will have a discussion about JFK's call for a man on the moon, and Zero cant really imagine it while Snake has a lot of faith in the idea.

If you pick up the glow-in-the-dark mushrooms, Snake can ask Paramedic if eating them will recharge the batteries of his equipment, which Paramedic balks at. If you eat the mushrooms (discovering they really do recharge your batteries) and call back, Snake will say so, and you will hear Paramedic, Zero, and Sigint crowding around Paramedic's desk and whispering about whether Snake is mentally compromised and may need to abort the mission.

It's insane how much dialogue they packed into that game. From Paramedic talking about movies to Sigint having something interesting to say about all your equipment. I almost always tried calling everyone the second I encountered something new because I just loved the back and forth between them and Snake. Especially the silly convos like the box or naked camo call with Sigint

It's been forever since I played, but basically you hold square down lightly (do not push all the way) to aim your gun, then firmly press it down to fire. Same with CQC, hold circle slightly down to grab and hold them, pushing it all the way down executes the enemy

one of the funniest parts in any mgs game is calling sigint after you have that weird dream minigame in the prison, which makes sigint talk about a recurring nightmare he has where towns and people are turning into shit and makes snake incredibly confused and uncomfortable

Aight. I just feel like I'd break the controller with how it wants me to press it all the way in. I remember this as the reason I didn't love the ps2 titles as much mgs because I was scared of breaking the pad.

Yes, but it doesn't run at 10 fps. The camera is absolutely terrible, but I would rather replay MGS3 with the locked camera than have some areas be literally unplayable.

You have to keep in mind I was like 12 when I played Snake Eater 3D I'm not sure I knew what framerates even are. I do remember looking for a shooter game or something for my 3DS and I saw the blurb for it on GameFAQs and I thought it sounded so cool

October 16, 1962. The President of the United States received word that the Soviet Union had deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The world trembled in fear as the prospect of nuclear war loomed ever closer. After days of tense negotiations, the Soviets finally agreed on the 28th to withdraw their missiles from Cuban soil. With the resolution of this incident, later to be known as the Cuban Missile Crisis, it seemed that humanity had survived yet another threat to its existence.

However, there was a secret condition in the deal that put an end to the crisis. Nokolai Stepanovich Sokolov, a Soviet scientist who had defected to the West, was to be sent back to the Soviet Union. The U.S. government agreed to this stipulation, and returned Sokolov back to his native land. Little did they know that Sokolov was to be the designer of a nightmarish weapon. Now, with Sokolov back in their hands, the Soviets are ready to resume its development. If this weapon is completed, it will mark the beginning of a new age of fear.

August 1964. Realizing at last the urgency of the situation, the CIA forms a plan to recapture Sokolov. They dispatch the covert FOX unit to Sokolov's research facility, located to the south of the great Soviet fortress of Groznyj Grad. Led by former SAS member Major Zero, FOX is a next-generation special-forces unit that operates both as a specialized combat group and as a covert intelligence outfit. The FOX unit's modus operandi is to send a single agent, backed by radio support from afar, into enemy territory to carry out solo sneaking missions.

August 24. A lone soldier swoops down from out of the blue. The man's code name is Naked Snake.
This blurb filled me with so much interest and intrigue. Also I was afraid my mom wouldn't approve of it because of the word 'naked' in his code name lmao. But at the same time I thought that just made it cooler because someone with an unusual code name like that must be very interesting.

Have you fought The Fear on 3DS? Single-digit framerate nearly the entire way through. This is hampered even further by the absolutely terrible control scheme. I'm on N3DS, and the nub absolutely doesn't cut it. I can't even imagine what base 3DS players have to deal with. I had to do the quick kill on him because there's just no other consistent way to win.

Again, though, I did say it was debatably the worst version. What you value in playability is yours, and I can't make you value the things I do.

Regardless, MGS3 is the GOAT. Best Metal Gear game, best Kojima game, best stealth game, best survival game, best James Bond game.

I played on the first edition of the 3DS I was nearly an ambassador and I never had any serious issue with the framerate. It's probably uncomfortable if you're used to the PS2 framerate but it really is manageable. I've beat The Fear doing foxhound run on extreme on 3ds soooo

MGS3 (and MGS1 to a lesser extent) is inarguably a huge James Bond homage, but quite a few of the major tropes are amazingly subverted.

As I understand it, Williams said he didn't want to do a third Metal Gear in the style of the first two, so he asked Kojima for a jungle setting. Kojima had already settled on it, but he wanted to seem like he was trying to go out of his way for him, so he told Williams that he changed the setting just for him.

Oh wow - yeah, that's incredible might've been that interview then

My first exposure to MGS was 2.. playing that as a kid really turned my head not understanding hoohaw about the world lol

Seeing like images of Solid Snake and that music along with it made me very aware of how futuristic vidya was in terms of art - it was definitely something that growing up made me aware of 'oh so theres like music, painting, and interaction that can all occur in a space'

It's not much saying you're an MGS fan, but it's honest work lol
