Board 8 > Is anyone else playing through Atelier Ryza 2?

I've got about 10 hours on it so far. Mostly just walking around doing random shit but the battle system is definitely more fun than the first one since you can use items freely now without feeling like you're wasting anything. That was a great change on their part. Besides that though it seems more of the same, which is good enough for me

I've never played a Ys game before. If I wasn't planning on going through cold steel and the crossbell games soon I would consider it, but...my hands are full with that

No I'm finishing Ryza 1 after putting it on hold last year around halfway through

Ryza is definitely an innocent enough game to put on hold, since there's not exactly a lot of complication to the plot you need to remember to enjoy it

Decided long ago that I want the Dusk trilogy to be my entry point to the series but the pricing on these games is bananas. They almost never go on sale and this group of three ~9-year-old games being $90 is beyond absurd.

i beat it the other day, 7.5/10 it was ok

story weak as usual (plot points feel way too sudden), characters good, a couple music tracks are 10/10 (boss theme and second battle theme in particular), battle system is neat and pretty but really simple and i prefer older atelier/mana khemia systems, camera focuses on ryza's ass a little too much, gear progression felt spiky and seeds were unlocked too late for me to realize how useful they were, and bos is competing for best atelier series character period

got me to go start lydie&suelle though which is a definite 9/10 at least

lolis in pretty dresses era atelier > thirst era atelier imo

i gave up midway through firis too honestly, i'll get back to it someday

sophie was amazing but trying to do open world made firis feel ehh

with the skill tree u can unlock seeds as early as u want tho. im 10 hours in and I have seeds. or am I missing something

the game explicitly wastes time to focus in on ryza's ass when you crawl through small spaces. i LOVE me some ass but not when it's just there to be like "behold... ass" while i'm trying to play the game

you need to synthesize plant food to unlock it, and for that you need jade water

which doesnt drop until the third full ruins which is over halfway through the game. you can get it early via shop developments but not that much earlier, and it's more likely you'll realize you can make it a bit later than that (since it's never stated until after the quest that that's what unlocks the garden)

if you haven't completed the first ruins, the maiden's catacombs, you can't gather it directly

probably shop developments via selling pentanite, which is a rare ish monster drop early on or you can eventually find in the wild in higher level areas you aren't really meant to explore until third to fifth ruins

it's very much possible to sequence break in ryza 2 with luck or by avoiding monsters and trying to cheese gathering in high level areas, but i don't think that it should be expected

I will say the worst thing about Ryza 1 is that you don't get item duplication until like 3/4ths of the way through the story.

Just about got sick of making the same iron bars/cloths etc, even if you could automate it to an extent with the auto-craft, it was still one at a time.

IDK who thought that was a good idea on the dev team.
