just replayed it with moguri mod, turn based enabled (speeds up with combat imo), and a beatrix mod that makes her a legit recruitable character with dialogue in the cutscenes, trance, skills and all that.

so fucking good.

I've been meaning to replay it with this mod. I take it the beatrix mod is compatible with the moguri mod then?

This thread made me reread the game's Wikipedia entry since I played it two decades ago, and now I remember questions I had! Did the genomes Garland created stay in Terraria? Or had some been moved to Gaia?

Zidane grabbed a bunch of Genomes before Terra's destruction and they went to live in the Black Mage Village.

I recently replayed for the first time in about a decade with the Moguri mod and was reminded how much I loved this game. Ending still punches you right in the feels.

Wasnt Mokoto the only genome that had a soul at the time. Its been years since i played but she was intended to replace Zidane and Kuja.

Yeah.

In fact, the remaining Genomes get dropped off at the Black Mage Village at the beginning of disc 4. There are some fun scenes with the black mages teaching them about stuff, or at least trying to.

They should have just, A) kept Necron as Hades like was their original idea, and B) flesh out his arrival a bit more, either through a mini-dungeon or some other thing.

Even without any prior build-up, it probably wouldnt have been so bad if the game made the player feel a natural connection between the actions of the characters and how they would result in the appearance of the final boss.

oh shit, all this genocide caught the attention of the god of the underworld! isnt the worst end-game twist, imo. >_>

It is interesting that the concept of life and death is so prevalent for the entire roster.

Zidane and Kuja - have basically a shorter life due to their creation.
Vivi - obsolescence and short life are guaranteed.
Dagger - Actions of her country gives way to death of thousands, her tribe is also killed when she is young.
Freya - lives through the near eradication of her entire race.
Garland - attempting to save his planet from extinction

So much death.

I'll never forget that scene where vivi is talking to the mages about funerals and they say something along the lines of funerals not being for the dead, but being for the living so they know that even in death they're never forgotten by those they loved.

I was like like 12 when I first had that scene, I'm 31 now and it still gets me in my feels.

I started playing FF9 again a few days ago but I literally am at the very beginning. Its so easy to get 100 nobles impressed on the PSN version. Its been a few years since I last played so Im giving it another go.

It's Vivi's final words that hit me the hardest.

I entirely missed that it was Vivi speaking in that scene prior to his death when I was a kid. It hit really hard when I realized what was really going on there.

It took me a bit to figure out who was speaking for sure, but yeah, it could only be Vivi. Especially when you consider that the black mages had limited lifespans, and that Vivi is the only character main missing from the ending scenes.

I didn't catch it at all as a kid, so it hit especially hard this time.

Ugh that ending makes me cry every time. One of my favorite games of all time.

Shit, I just beat it last year and already forgot how it ended. I remember beating Hades and then some weird creature who wasn't Kuja at the end.
