Biggest letdown since FFXV, and the biggest letdown until FF7R. Squeenix needs help.

Count me in as being one of the many people severely let down by how it turned out. Sure, I suppose I'm happy it finally came out at all, but it was definitely way overdue and had it not been for Final ass fucking Fantasy taking priority, we probably could've gotten it sooner before they had the chance to make bad choices like create Union Cross or whatever the mobile game's called.

I got a PS3 to play KH3. That's how long I waited/roughly when I expected it would come out. I was certain it would follow the pattern of "spinoff game then main game" and come out maybe around the time I graduated high school.

I was YEARS past college graduation when it finally came out. I fell off after 2 because I figured "okay, I'll play all these spinoffs when they formally announce KH3" which proceeded to not happen until 2013 and I didn't get around to playing those games until 2018 because it took that long to get a concrete release date.

though, I guess I did get my "spinoff game that sets up the main entry" in Dream Drop Distance. It felt the most like 1 and 2 to me and I really enjoyed it even though the story goes completely off the rails near the end.

I didn't care about the trailer at all, and as a matter of fact I don't even remember the trailer

The game was just bad. I have no idea wtf was going on with the story, though I know that the issue there is I didn't follow all the side games.

But even down to the really bad voice acting/acting/production in the scenes. This was not up to par for a game was released in 2018. Goofy would finish his dialogue and then there's this pause before the next person starts talking. It was so unnatural. Just one example of how the game just lacked polish and just was not very good.

KH3 is all flash with little substance and needed much better pacing for the overall story.

Best Part: Donald casting Zettaflare makes him one of the strongest mages in FF and KH and we have to live with that fact

Even if you did play all the side games, it wouldn't really help, since 80% of KH3 was filler anyway, and "Sora not knowing the plot" is actually turned into a recurring plot point.

Which is a fucking stupid string of logic, since that's why there's an easy mode in the first place.

The Pokemon devs said the same thing about why the newer Pokemon games are piss easy since "kids these days don't want hard games, they want quick ones like the ones they get on their phones."

80 to 90% of the game was pointless disney filler with no bearing on the relevant story beats that all played out too quickly for my liking at the end of the game

This is why I still consider KH2 the peak of the series, the disney stuff didn't feel like pointless chores that you had to slog through just to get to the good stuff

The villains actually had good reasons for showing up here and there to impede your progress in that game whereas in KH3, they do not

They really fucked up writing themselves into a corner with the whole 7 lights vs 13 darknesses at final world bullshit that in the end didn't end up mattering much at all

I keep meaning to get back to the game, but I don't feel compelled to. I'm not feeling it as much as I did with the other games. Maybe I will when I decide to finish getting all of the achievements for the other games I'm playing at the moment.

Ehhhhhh, they were kind of filler in KH2 too.

Yeah, the Disney worlds in KH2 were mainly filler as well, but at least when an Org member showed up they were a brand new character, so you could kinda keep yourself interested in that. And some stuff like Beast's Castle and Tron did tie directly into the main story, which helped.

But I'll give KH2's Disney worlds credit for not overstaying their welcome. You go to them in quicker bursts, as opposed to KH3, where you're in a single world for 3~4 hours straight, and it becomes more and more apparent that it's just filler the longer you're there.

KH1's the only main game that actually connected the Disney worlds to the larger story arc, with the Princesses, Malefient's league, and Riku's switch to the villains.

Yeah this thought struck me the other day. Waiting for that game was such a big part of my life. I was waiting for a true sequel to KH2 as soon as I beat it so nearly 13 years I waited.

Feels a little weird now, regardless of how I felt about the final product it was a pretty large part of my life.

Story wise, It had some of the worst pacing in a game I've ever seen. The main story, Disney worlds, and the sub plot involving maleficent had no connectivity at all. Hell even traveling the world's this time is just one big waste of time. With most of the main plot being dumped at the very end of the game.

The main antagonist dont really have a reason to be there and neither do you. Aside from recovering your lost powers that vanished for no reason in 3Ds. Which was really just a excuse to restart you at lv 1. Becuase got forbid you started at lv25 or some shit, and ended the game at....lv75 out of 99? Shrug.

This isn't even getting into Soras and Mickeys character assassination.

If they knew the gameplay would be budget KH2 gameplay then they shouldn't have tried to replicate it. I won't say KH1 gameplay is amazing or anything, but I enjoy it for not being KH2 gameplay on a lot of the boss fights and big encounters. Nothing about KH3 gameplay makes me do anything other than pine for KH2 gameplay.

What? The worst KH worlds are usually the ones where it's just the Disney story with Sora added in. Frozen is a garbage world. Tangled is pretty garbage. The Pirates world in KH3 barely exists aside from a ship minigame.

The Toy Story and Monster's Inc worlds were fun. The Toy Story especially because Woody the Toy Fucking Cowboy walks up to the big bad of the entire series and shit-talks him like he just caught Andy shooting heroine.
