Most social media sites don't have freedom of speech. You still get moderated or banned for a lot of opinions. I feel like probably 4chan is the only site where you can say anything and post crazy stuff without being banned

When we stop someone from spreading disinformation, it's crazy how that helps heal the country.

I blame social media sites for allowing the state of online news and propaganda to degenerate for four years unchecked. They could have taken measures YEARS ago. Now they're patting each other on the back for finally starting to regulate misinformation after it's already done so much catastrophic damage.

Conservatives whine about how much disproportionate influence social media companies have, but always neglect to mention the part where that level of unfettered access to american discourse is the only thing than enabled their little far-right populist surge in the first place. convenient that they only have a problem now that they're on the shit end of the stick but were completely silent on the role social media played in the rise of Q and election fraud conspiracies, and covid misinformation and all the other myriad false right wing narratives that spread like wildfire the past 5 years

I mean, it was Trump's decision not to do weekly radio addresses like literally every president since FDR. Radio airwaves are considered public property, so there's no corporation to tell him he can't address the nation.

Of course, that would mean he would actually have to make coherent statements rather than tweet tiny snippets of things he read on conservative websites without any evidence or context.
