If some jackass on twitter started a campaign for $5000 checks, they'd latch onto that and demand it, too. The republican claims that people don't want handouts and prefer to work for their money have been so fucking shredded this past year. Good on the Dems...somewhat...for not giving into public pressure to just give infinite handouts and actually trying to set boundaries to the insane debt we're piling up. That's what our leaders should be doing, what's necessary, not what's popular. But then they get wrecked for it in the next election. Democracy indeed is giving people exactly what they deserve, and giving it good and hard... EDIT: Increasing min. wage to $15 is stupid, too. Adjust it for inflation and permanently index it to inflation so that every year going forward it goes up automatically, without needing to wait for Dems to have total control to raise it again. "Fight for $15" is a stupid over-simplified buzzword/phrase. People in rural Kansas don't need a $15/hr minimum wage. These people (GOP) have no morals whatsoever. If you count the $600 and add the $1400 that amounts to $2,000 if my math is correct so what's the issue. They should send people $1500 per month if they qualify until Covid is under control. For people who have the luxury of working from home, this isn't an issue but for people who are still idled from work due to closure because of Covid, that would help them greatly.
