Wait a second. Im concerned here. What happened to all the Knights of Seiros after the time skip? I thought they would have returned to the Monastery after we reclaimed it and fixed it up. No Alois, Catherine, Shamir or the teachers. No one outside of Seteth and Flayn. I know I didnt have see the teachers in the Crimson Flower route but I thought it was because of that. I didnt expect everyone to just disappear without even being mentioned.

I ran into an unexpected situation. I just mastered Archer for Leonie. I just had her pass both the Sniper and Bow Knight tests. Should I bother having her run through Sniper or just move her straight to a Bow Knight?

You don't get anything from Sniper you can carry with you to other classes.

Yup Leonie should just go straight to Bow Knight if it is available.

It is easily one of the better classes in Hard Mode. And it is almost always Leonie's best class in all difficulties because she has PBV.

A couple of classes have a combat art that can only be used in that class as their mastery ability. Off the top of my head, Grappler, Warmaster, Swordmaster, Assassin and Sniper. Though Grappler, Warmaster and Assasin also get abilities in addition to their class-specific combat art.

Im guessing Hunters Volley is the Sniper ability. It was insanely powerful on my first run

The Time Skips in this game are so satisfying. Post timeskip Leione is much better IMO. Sure she still looks up to Jeralt as a hero but it isn't so damn obnoxious anymore. She also seems to be more calm. It's quite impressive that the game feels like every character has actually matured in 5 years. Doing that with so many isn't easy. Also, Flayn seems a little... odd. She is very... forceful... when in battle. "OWNWARD!" She says it like she is so angry. That can't be on accident. I wonder what it is.

The White Clouds section does Leonie a giant disservice by locking her Byleth B support until right after chapter 9, even though the actual contents of it has no reference to chapter 9, and Leonie seems like a fucking turdmeister because of the comments she makes, right after the events of chapter 9. It's honestly baffling as a choice.

I always wondered about this. If the chapter is the one I'm thinking about, she said some things that made me flat out hate her. Like why in the hell would you say some of those things right after something like that happened? Her other supports after the time skip definitely make her feel like a much better character.

I did struggle on this map even in Hard Mode but I thought it was because I screwed up leveling up my units or something. I didnt put much thought into it outside of that. I remember Byleth could be one rounded by the enemy and there was no way that map would be that hard without me screwing up ahead of time. Apparently.. I was wrong.

If that map is that difficulty by design... I cant imagine that map on Maddening Mode. Jesus...

Reunion at Dawn can flat out end runs in some cases.

-The unit positioning is awful and leaves a lot of vulnerable units in terrible spots out of the gate.

-You're stuck with your class units, so if you've invested into Church characters, students from other houses, or DLC characters, you're just fucked for it.

-On BL, you get Gilbert, who gets one rounded by just about any of the enemies in Maddening by default and is dead weight out of the box.

-You can't do much for preps minus some very mild item shuffling if you back out, so if you aren't set up for it, you're screwed.

Basically...yeah, it's a miserable chapter on Maddening. It's one of the best examples of "This game was not designed with Maddening in mind at all."

Yeah, I'd probably rank it in the top 5 or so for sure.

Offhand, Thracia chapter 24x is harder if you're playing blind. I'd definitely rank that as the most strictly obnoxious, though it's a lot less outrageous if you know what's going on.

Battle Before Dawn HHM is probably slightly worse if you're going for full recruitment just because it's possible to lose Jaffar off of bad AI/bad luck. It's not as bad if you're fine with him and Nino dying, though.

And I'd probably put it around the level of Conquest's final map and the swamp map in RD. Maybe the Galle map in Binding Blade would rank up there too.

But yeah, I'd probably put it around 3rd for hardest series maps, offhand.

Double posting, but following from my previous post, this is a fun watch for anyone who hasn't played Thracia.

Doing 24x blind is a wild ride. I firmly hold that it's the worst map in the series on multiple fronts, and that it plays more like a trolly fanhack map than anything else. It makes for a really funny viewing experience, though.

On a side note, I once again must say how impressed I am with how everyone actually matures post time skip. Physically sure but the mental maturity is fantastic. Their post time skip supports show it well and even their dialogue in battle really shows this. I know its small but it really immerses me into the story. The game does a very good job of letting you getting to know everyone pretty intimately so the 5 year gap feels like you havent seen them in 5 years. Hell, even some voices sound different.

Ignatz is an all around good example. His voice is deeper and he sounds far more confident than he ever did before. Especially in battle. He is still Ignatz but you can see the maturity.

There are plenty of other examples too. Marianne shocked me with how much better she got at talking to people as another example.

OK. This shit is actually bothering me. I combined Stride, Rescue and Warp to get to Dimitri at the beginning of the fight for both Claude and Byleth. This dude has lost his damn mind. He wont listen to reason. None of his friends even questions it. They are just willing to die for this insane King. No questions asked. He is going to get all of his loyal friends killed and it will be all his fault.

Ill actually play the chapter tomorrow but this shit is nuts.

There is no real logic to the Battle of Gronder Field. They just wanted a 5 year repeat of the Battle of Eagle of Lion even if two of the armies have zero reason to fight.

The Blood of the Eagle and Lion is really stupid no matter how you look at it. I have some comments regarding it, but it contains miniscule spoilers regarding the Blue Lion route, so if you don't wanna know anything at all, don't read.

You play The Blood of the Eagle and Lion on both the golden deer and blue lion routes. Marginally it makes more sense in the golden deer route, after you have played blue lions, why Dimitri would act like he does. Marginally. In the blue lions route there is literally no logic as to why the golden deer house takes on the antagonistic role that blue lions have in the golden deer route. The game's pretend reasoning in both cases is that Edelgard is using her shamans to create so much chaos and confusion on the map that they cant tell friend from foe, but that makes no sense when characters exchange dialogue before engaging in battle, and if that was the intended logic, there is no indication of it on the battlefield. I don't like fog of war gameplay, but at least it would make sense in the narrative to have some presence of that at play, but they don't, and there's no visual indicator of such a situation. It's by far the low point of any route the chapter appears in.

They kind of didn't know how to make the 3-way POV thing work. The narrative would probably have suffered less if it had been Fire Emblem: Two Houses.

God that map.

Dimitri just lead everyone to their deaths. His reactions to them dying was almost nothing. He literally had three dots for Sylvain dying. Im assuming there is something more there with that which you will see on the Blue Lion route. The only one that he wanted to actually retreat, which everyone could have on defeat, was Dedude and it insulted him while telling him to do so. What a piece of shit. You send everyone else to their deaths but you get the honor of retreating along with your best friend that you practically hate? Yea. Great leadership there. Actual asshole. He was so bad that Edelgard seemed like the better individual and she started this war.

Im on Chapter 19 and I still havent had any of the teachers come back to the Monastery. Im starting to think I had to recruit all of them to have that happen.

A couple have their own requirements but they're easier and for some you just have to ask once the Recruit option is available and they join.

Teachers and Church staff have to he recruited just like any student but their requirements are almost always just level based. So they are basically free recruits.

All the church staff members either join automatically, or can join from certain chapters if asked when Byleth's level is sufficient, which I think is always lvl 15, except for Cyril whose requirement is level 10.

Also some characters can't join on certain routes.

OK. I just beat the Golden Deer route. While it was better than Crimson Flower by a large margin, Im still a little annoyed. So much is left not answered.

What happened to Rhea? Yea she was injured but there was no info on her after the final battle. She could have died from her injuries for all I know. There was still no info on Byleths mother or the entire story of what happened before Jeralt left the monastery. I still have no idea who the mother is. Jeralt is still shrouded in mystery.

Claude never really said he was from Almyra and never got into his details about his past. He promised he would go into details after he learned about me but there was zero payoff. Dimitris death was really stupid. I thought he would escape and I would talk to
him again but nope, he just gets stabbed by spears after collapsing. Dedude just disappeared and he was never brought up again. We also never saw Hildas brother which blew my mind. How can he be mentioned so much with zero payoff? Im also shocked that Flayn and Seteth never told Byleth about who they really are. That made no sense. I got confirmation who they were through their supports and a paralogue but that was never discussed with Byleth directly.

The game also never really explained the Javelin of Light. It was used by those who slither in the dark but nothing really shows how that is happening. If it is a spell then it is unknown who is casting it since the game never really showed someone actually casting it. It also looked man made and just came out of nowhere so I question if it is just a pure spell.

I also felt like Byleth could have saved Edelgard at the end instead of killing her but I can let that pass for several reasons. I could see Edelgard using that moment of weakness to her advantage. Also, you promised several people to kill her so I guess you have no choice.

Im sure there is many more things I want to say but this is everything on the top of my head. I know the criticism seems worse that Crimson Flower but trust me its not. This route was FAR better IMO. Claude is the only sane Lord in this game.

Another thing, Im going to try to beat the Blue Lions route on Maddening. Should be a royal pain in the ass

Yeah, it is super annoying how the routes parcel out information. A lot gets answered, but you have to play every route, and even then, you still have to piece together stuff. You don't get flat out told sometimes.

Also, no spoilers, but you will realize just how fitting one of those sentences is during your BL playthrough >_>

How much better are Wyvern Lords vs Bow Knights? Im going to be researching and asking a lot of questions before starting Maddening. Bow Knight is easily my favorite class and I would love for Byleth to be one. I know I should have a ton of fliers too. I also need Rescue and Warp staves so Im recruiting Lysethia. I dont know who else has those staves.

Really? I thought they would be pretty even. Hunter Volley is really strong but I figured Movement + Bow Range + Movement after attacking would be a really big deal. I though Sniper would actually be slightly worse.

The speed modifiers are actually kinda irrelevant, since most characters won't ever naturally double a non-armor the entire game. The entire reason Sniper is good is because doubling combat arts are that important. Any CA that can allow a unit to kill without getting doubled is that important. Sniper just gives relative easy access to one. Anyone who can learn a CA that naturally gives them Player Phase delete ability (Swift Strikes, PBV, Vengence) would never be a Sniper.

Grappler's Fierce Iron Fist is similarly valued.

If you aren't doing NG plus I probably wouldn't have more than 3 Flyers. There just aren't enough good Flying Battalions. One of those Flyers should be Sylvain because Swift Strikes.

Enemy Phase is much more important this time around. Early game you'll want a real tank. Mid-to-late game a dodge tank becomes important for baiting and weakening. Thankfully, BL gives you Dedue and Dimitri who do those trolls amazingly.

Thank you for all this info. The 3 flyer thing was huge. I didnt even consider how many flying battalions existed. I was definitely doing regular new game for this run

On the plus side BL Maddening means you get to really appreciate the Enemy Phase God that is Dimitri. Battalion Wrath + Battalion Vantage + Killer Weapon + Retribution means that you can basically Warp Dimitri into the middle of anything but a group of Monsters and watch him Kill every last one of them with impunity. Difficulty be damned.
