My tooth chipped a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I have a couple of cavities. I don't have insurance but I got a quote from a dentist in Mexico for pretty cheap work. ($20 for a teeth cleaning, 50 to fix the chip, 30 per filling). My sister is coming with me and is getting a root canal (for $200 lol).

anyway I have dual citizenship so I'm not worried about any legal stuff, but I've been doing a good job of staying home this past year, and I'm a little scared of going down and catching covid. But if dental care wasn't crazy expensive I could stay home and that's not gonna happen.

ask me anything, or tell me about your Mexico experiences, or give me advice or whatever. Not sure if I'll be able to use the internet while I'm out of the states tho

That's a long time without seeing the dentist. Hopefully you do brush regularly.

All done. I had one cavity, but it was a doozy. It was apparently pretty deep. I was also told I was brushing too harshly, and it was starting to cause receding gums.

anyway, I had
  • valet parking in the US
  • transportation to and from the dentist office
  • "guaranteed safety" (lmao)
  • a teeth cleaning
  • chip fix
  • one crown

cost was $70 (plus $10 tip that I gave)

Also I'm a medicine baby so I asked not to be numbed (that needle did not look friendly) and it was fairly painful but not unmanageable

more on this: I was picked up by a driver and taken to Mexico. Once at the dental office, we were ushered in by security, who locked the doors after us, and are standing by. I'm not allowed to leave the building until my sister is ready to go (well, I can but I lose my ride back), but the office does sell sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. I'm assuming we'll be ushered back into the car, then driven stateside.

Dang, that's pretty cheap. It's $80 just for a regular teeth cleaning and my dentist wants to see me twice a year.

That's not a thing. That's what the internet tells people is a thing to let them believe they can fix the problem without professional assistance.

Citation: worked in dental research for 4 years-ish

That's gingivitis or periodontitis, brotha

Go to a real dentist, get some xrays, get your gums probe depthed, have a four quadrant scaling/root planing, and do a follow up 6 months to a year from that

Don't lose your damn teeth

you not getting a proper teeth cleaning in a decade likely caused for hard plaque to build up and allow the gum line to receed. Youre in need of a deep cleaning where they go below your gumline to remove the excess built up plaque.

Brushing too hard also can cause damage. I went with the Oral B electric tooth brush with soft bristles and the setting for light brushing. Truth be told unless your teeth are strong/healthy most people tend to brush too hard.
