Substitute Mayweather with Ali. Ali might not be the most skilled boxer of all time, but he's arguably the most courageous, and his athletic resume coupled with his unrivaled cultural impact makes him the most common choice for goat of his sport.

Being the GOAT is as much hype as skill, maybe more, and no boxer has ever been more hype than Ali. Mayweather may be in the conversation, but Ali is the conversation.

There are a few others you could put in the same category as the Babe in terms of being a great slugger, but he was also a Cy Young-caliber pitcher in his early years which I think puts him over the top. There's a reason he's the bedrock the Hall of Fame was built around.

I'm fine with Ali in the boxer spot, he doesn't have the stats of some other top heavyweights but when you factor in how he was forced to step away from the sport for years, it about evens out.

Brady always had great teams around him, but you can't argue with his results. I was a Montana guy all my life, but finally gave in and admitted Brady had surpassed him after the comeback against the Falcons.

If you want to avoid the QB controversy though, you could just go with Jerry Rice.
