It will be properly over on January 20th, however, most of Trump's avenues for clinging to power have been cut off at this point. The legislature failed him, the Supreme Court denied the standing of his case, the military did not assist in the attack on the legislature today and will not engage in a coup for Trump, and his followers can engage in terrorism all they want; they lack the means to accomplish anything of substance against the USA for a variety of reasons.

All Trump can really do at this point is spitefully lash out with what few powers he has that are still relevant for the last two weeks of his presidency. His executive orders will not stick due to a rule which causes them to be easily undone when the next president comes to power, the military will not let him fuck around with foreign relations at this point, the legislature (especially McConnell, working with Pence) basically gave him a giant finger with how they behaved over the past four hours or so, and the Supreme Court can't be easily worked with in such a short span of time... and there's not much he can do with the SC right now anyway.

So, he could continue to try and screw with appointments, and try to rush through really shitty deals (like the environmental ones he's been working on, selling off native american sacred land to drilling companies and such), and inciting his cult of personality base as much as possible, though I suspect that after today/yesterday, the other branches of government will not take that lying down.

There's always the possibility that he goes quiet, actually. It wouldn't surprise me if he left the White House prior to January 20th in order to avoid cameras, though alternatively he could go full toddler and try to lock himself in, which would be funny, but I don't think he likes the place.

He is sometimes hard to predict, though not always.

I'm so ready for all of this to be over.

I have coworkers and acquaintances who still think the election was fraudulent and that the people who broke into the capital building are Antifa members... They are also calling anyone who criticizes this event as hypocrites, and they're even praising this event.

So much damage has been done to our society and citizens in recent times. It's sad that a decent chunk of the population now believe in fake conspiracy theories and follow Trump like he's some sort of god.

Yesterday got off to a good start in Georgia ... and then this shit happened.

I still don't quite get it though. What was the plan?

Ok, let's say peaceful protest had happened. Cool. The votes were already certified. Still after two months no actual evidence saying otherwise, a bunch of congressmen would have said why they opposed it, but likely nothing would have changed. Would they have just gone home then?

But we didn't even get that, we had them attack the capitol. Broke windows. Tear apart offices. The woman who was shot climbing through a window when security had an pointed gun at her? What would have done if she got to the other side. What would they have done had they actually reached someone like Pence or any of the other Congressmen/women? I've seen pictures of some of them with the zip-tie cuffs.

What was the end games? Execution? Do they think that would actually work? Do they think that they would just come in and take over the Capital building and somehow magically they'd make Trump win again?

They were committing a felony and the federal government allows for felony murder charges. So these guys, if we can keep the justice system from giving them slap on the wrists are looking at 10 years at least in prison.

A few rioters manged to make it to the capital building then proceeded to dick around taking selfies with a bit of looting on the side, then some bitch ended up get shot in the throat and they scattered like roaches. Pretty much what happens with all these riots now a days. It's more about the scene than the riot.

many of them could face sedition charges which involves not only attempts to overthrow the government but attempts to disrupt the activities of the government. I cant imagine that disrupting the counting of electoral votes and declaring the winner of an election officially doesnt meet that standard.

Plus the proof angle for many but not all would be pretty easy.

many of these idiots were on camera and one woman even admitted to a reporter On camera they were starting a revolution. This would be the ultimate moron social media blunder too. Many of them took pics in offices In which federal property was destroyed or stolen.

the sedition charges could put some of them in prison for 20 years. I think an example has to be made. Charge the morons who were on camera with the slam dunk hard line sentencing and then cut deals with other suspects using the others as examples.
