According to the NYT Biden is a reason the checks were lowered to $600. Dems were much more bold in their negotiations before he gave cover for more conservative deals.

Not sure how Biden would have anything to do with the negotiations. Link?

I saw no indication of this. No point in asking us, anyway. Wait and see.

I will get the link but this notion that the president elect is powerless and has no platform to express his will as the incoming leader of the party is bewildering. Of course he has influence.

Biden and the DNC trying to court conservatives after four years of Donald Trump is a huge "fuck you" to the working class.

Joe Biden can eat shit until I see real progressive policy enacted.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/21/us/politics/biden-stimulus.html

With Republican and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate far apart on how much they were willing to accept in new pandemic spending, Mr. Biden on Dec. 2 threw his support behind the $900 billion plan being pushed by the centrist group. The total was less than half of the $2 trillion that Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York, had been insisting on.
Mr. Bidens move was not without risks. If it had failed to affect the discussions, the president-elect risked looking powerless to move Congress before he had taken the oath of office. But members of both parties said his intervention was constructive and gave Democrats confidence to pull back on their demands.

I'm not sure Biden saying "listen jack, we need to compromise" really constitutes in him having any power in the negotiations.

Not sure there's any way that the negotiations wouldn't be heavily pulled towards conservative ideals given they are the ones with all the power. I really don't think "Biden's the reason the deals are more conservative" is a reasonable stance.

Democrats were making bolder demands before reports of Biden putting his weight behind the more conservative options. The report literally states it's what gave Democrats confidence in backing off their demands, even citing members of both parties confirming this. But if you know something the NYT doesn't go ahead and give us the scoop.

Biden's entire history in the Obama years was to undercut Democrats and offer the farm to someone he calls a good friend:Mitch McConnell. This is just history repeating itself.

How so? like Obama backed down on a lot of things is it because he really let Biden sway him? If so, we're truly fucked, might as well call him seat warmer Biden for the next 4 years while Republicans fine a devil much more vile than Trump but not nearly as crazy, basically, they need a Boris Johnson, that appearance of his is a character he plays to hide what a self interested ghoul he really is.

Oh Obama was both spineless and just not the guy he was initially marketed as. In the 2nd primary debate Bennet complained about how anytime the Dems had Republicans cornered in a deal Biden would run to his buddy Mitch behind their back and undermine everything. As Obama always said: "Dont underestimate Joes ability to fuck things up.
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/08/14/obama-biden-relationship-393570

So most of the few accomplishments under Obama were done by Pelosi and Reid carrying Biden and Obama's dead weight over the finish line.

That's essentially impossible in the US, where regime change happens intentionally every four or eight years.
