MAGFest is... was... the Music and Games Festival. Honestly really the only one of its kind.

A four day party at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, MD celebrating video games and the music they create and inspire.

Bands, artists, and acts inspired by video game music flock there by the dozens. You can always find acts performing all over the place, whether it's a string quartet at the hotel bar, a death metal band playing on the main stage, a chiptuner on a side stage, or a jazz combo just setting up in one of the hallways to jam.

Big meetups for online communities and fandoms. Streamers, LPers, speedrunners all show up.

Big console room, mostly classic stuff. Arcade with a lot of the hard-to-finds. Fantastic artists alley. Giant tabletop section.

Ah. That sucks. Sounds like it was a pretty unique thing. Hopefully all the employees and volunteers that were fired can get together and come up with something new.

Conventions on a whole have been on critical life support given 2020. Like, most absolutely need to keep running every year so they can continue to get money and exist.

PAX, for example, sent out some communiques recently about how they're going to try to get 2021 shows running. PAX East, which just got under the wire in 2020 with the show happening in late February, is going to try for June in 2021, probably because they can't afford to miss a whole year of shows.

A lot of the acts run the convention circuit in general. Most conventions will have like an evening of live performances.

This was just an event where they could all get together from across the continent (and some from overseas) in one place and it's nonstop performances.
