Yeah. Everyone is always talking about it and saying how good it is. So, it sounds like it really might be that good. Even one of my co-workers always mentions it. Hes seen the series many times over by now.

It's better going into it without hype in mind, but is still good regardless, sans that one episode everyone likes to skip.

It's not even a bad episode; it just doesn't add anything to the story. There's nothing inherently wrong with filler, but it can be frustrating in a series that otherwise lacks it.

The best parts about it were the updated art style and the music. I think they just did the Last Airbender's characters so well that they couldn't match it with the sequel. Still worth watching imo.

It's really goddamn good. My sister and I are making our mom watch it. XD

Yeah, hopping on board with everyone to confirm Avatar is a very solid show. I also think it helped kick off a wave of American cartoons with serialized, ongoing stories, which I appreciate as well. I still haven't checked out Korra, but it's on my list.

So, I have realized something. I'm not far in yet, but I think I've seen all these episodes. I remember bits and pieces of each (Though I did not remember George Takei)... But I am enjoying it still... I thought I had seen much less than I really did. That being said, I think I was on the bandwagon when the "First Book" came out...

Depending on where you are, their plan evolves in a particularly nasty direction by Season 3. But in the beginning (before the start of the series) their basic plan was to get rid of the Air Nomads and thus the next Avatar, then find and get rid of the Water and Earth Nation-born Avatars so that there would be no one capable of stopping them. The Avatar is born in a cycle of the Nations: Fire, Air, Water, Earth, rinse & repeat. Eventually the Avatar would be reborn into the Fire Nation and subject to all the propaganda therein, thus being on their side.

They go into it later, but Roku was part of the "old" Fire Nation, before they became so militarized. There's a strong corollary between the Fire Nation and Japan's transitioning from the post-shogunate Meiji era to the Imperial era, and they go into greater detail about how the Fire Lords have indoctrinated the citizenry.

I loved it. I got into at the end of the series (I think one of the first -- if not the first -- episode I might have watched was "The Ember Island Players") then eventually went back to watch it from the beginning.

It's true. I don't think there was even a divide among the fanbase over it, as in I've yet to see anyone truly love or defend it. Just those who dislike the episode or those who tolerate it. Like the above link mentioned, it's totally filler without adding anything, every major character is acting out of character, and the whole premise and plot was contrived at best.

Yes, but most filler episodes of Avatar TLA add something to the character development or to the movement of the overall plot. Great Divide does not.

Not disagreeing. I'm pretty sure that episode with Iroh singing qualifies as a filler episode and it was amazing.

Lol didn't the creators indirectly admitted that they didn't like Great Divide as well?

I think I remember the gang flew over the Great divide in one episode and mentioned that it "isn't that great" or something?

It's easily one of the greatest cartoons ever made, and if you are looking at just action/drama cartoon's it's hands down the best.

It does everything right the characters are awesome the storyline is great the acting overall is very good. It does take a little while to get going though, the first bit is pretty good but not great it picks up more as it goes along overall.

Basically season 1 is the setup with many good points of its own, and seasons 2 and 3 are the show at its best . . . plus swamp benders.

I have a question. Let say two families have a mom and dad both with bending abilities. And both families have kids without bending abilities. If those two kids grow up and have kids, can their kids get bending abilities because it's in their family (like genes)? Or does at least one parent have to actually have the ability?
