That harassment over a moderation can extend offsite and is not just confined to gamefaqs itself, and that user in question is literally banned from this site but still spams shit in subreddits and discord servers to this day about or to moderators, particularly error

Also seeing the way some of you are obsessing over moderators right now is a pretty good reason why it is anonymous and most likely will stay anonymous.

I've heard tell of some users who actually cozy up with mods offsite and basically send them a text or Discord message to expedite posts they've marked. Not sure how true that is, but it does sound like something that people would do.

To make demands you have to have some sort of leverage. Gamefaqs message board users have 0 leverage over the moderation staff and they never will. It's not like Reddit where the message boards are even the main draw of the website. I got moderated over some political BS the other day and contested it. It got overturned, but even if it didn't, I'm not going to seethe in rage over it.

The message board users on CE and elsewhere do fuck all to support this website from a monetary or growth perspective. We can complain, we can vent. Those complaints can be valid and reasonable, but there still is not and will not be any impetus for change because we do not matter. At all.

Honestly, if its that upsetting, pull a bender and make your own forum. If the support you have is as strong as this topic indicates it will totally survive and thrive.

Why are you simping so hard for the Mods? Why should we be stuck with this fucking flaming pile of garbage of a moderation system just because of the (theoretical) actions of a small number of users in the future rather than saying these actions should be dealt with more harshly?

There's nothing actually stopping them from doing things about off-site harassment other than pure laziness and not caring. They could literally update the ToU and ban Taiis tomorrow if they actually cared enough.

Yeah, in my 18 years on this site I've only been moderated a couple of times basically just in this year for making fairly innocuous jokey/satirical comments. I think it's just overreaction and virtue signaling about current events that will blow over, much like the innocuous episodes of TV shows that got removed from streaming for supposed "racism". Seriously... An episode of Golden Girls gets pulled for a two-second gag about a facial mud mask, lmao. Or that episode of Community that was pulled for two seconds of Chang in dark elf makeup. Or something like Always Sunny where it's always clear the characters are awful and wrong in the awful and wrong things they do.

Hopefully, sense will start to prevail again once things set back into normal and context and humor will start to matter again. 2020 has been a shit show all around.

Ive seen people across different threads say theyre getting modded for standing up to trolls or fighting for good. How are you doing that, exactly? Are you just saying Wow fuck you piece of shit? because that will most likely get you modded, and thats mostly what Ive seen get modded. That easily falls into the abusive behavior flag. You are getting goaded by trolls, some of which are skirting the TOU. Getting rid of mod anonymity is not going to fix you thinking you can flame someone because theyre saying something you deem abhorrent and that somehow magically overrides the rules. Learn how to mark and move on, or if youre going to engage, learn how to say something of substance.

Because this site has some truly fucking terrible mods and being non-anonymous would put at least some level of public-facing accountability on their actions.

It would also add confidence/belief to their claims. For example, AssultTank continually claims he never handles any marks/moderations in relation to Conflict, because he cannot remain impartial (which is another matter that should be discussed but isn't related to this). There's no actual proof of this, just his word, but in a non-anonymous moderation system this would be verifiable by Conflict himself.

Of course it wouldn't fix everything. Crono straight up locked one of my topics over the weekend and then replied after he locked it so he could get the last word in. And then the topic goats made calling him out for it was moderated. Maybe the topic goats made doesn't get moderated in a system where goats could see who did the moderation, but there's no fixing the other shit.

I agree thats a problem they dont seem to get touched, especially when its blatantly racist/trolling, but that still doesnt mean you wont get modded for engaging them in that way just because what theyre saying is morally abhorrent. I agree with the other guy you have to work to get modded here. Flaming and trolling are the two big ones people seem unable to stop doing.

Also having hot takes that they think the world has to hear on a dying games message board when in reality they are either racist or worse. Case in point The Admiral who skated by for far too long but eventually got banned.

Also, we have literally had mods whose families were messaged through twitter and facebook and threatened over moderations... The more public mods accept that is a possibility as a consequence of posting on the boards, but there are dozens of mods who don't post on the boards with the people who pull that shit and don't want to be targets. When mod names were public to the modded user, that sort of shit was WAY more common, it's literally why it was removed. Sort that out within the userbase first, and then the admins might consider making who modded what public again.

That's only if you have opinions that are the norm. If you have conservative opinions against the norm in this quite progressive site, then you will get modded down the line. Just recently, in one topic, I made my points, and the responses were braindead ones like "you're a villain" or "wew lad" or some crap. Only person articulated on why he disagreed with me and as I planned on responding, boom, my original post was deleted.

How do you have a discussion if your posts are going to get deleted and your account ends up warned? What good is a forum if you can't let points clash against one another? Moderators take it too far where they stifle discussion and so the only points you see are the type that fit with the majority. It's already bad enough that people block others because they don't like their opinions (I can guarantee you this is a decent percentage, it's not just being used to avoid bullies).

This site is a dying site and yet it can be so much more. Some of us want this site to succeed and go back to its golden age. More importantly, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from candid discussions. Different points are recognized, and you have more opportunities to learn. It's good we have moderators since not every forum has to be 4chan where people mudsling at each other 24/7, but the mods here keep extending what constitutes as trolling or offensive.
