3 is interesting for how small scale it is and has a better cast. 4 probably has a better overall story and is one of the most gorgeous games ever

overall I dunno. Biased towards 3 though

I've played both more than once.

They're both good, but BoF3 is better.

3 has a better party, better dragon system, and has some ties to the previous titles.

4 is cool with neat ideas, but it is really carried by Fou-Lu. The main cast are mostly just meh.

Essentially this. Also, I feel like the difficulty in 4 was really low. BOF3 can be a struggle in some areas, assuming you don't over level and learn shadowwalk so early.

I have too much nostalgia for III to be objective.

One thing that I've kind of landed on over the years is that the depth of III's dragon system is kinda fake, since even though there's countless combinations, I kinda just default to the "good" ones. Might just be because I've played it so much.

Also the narrative for IV is just tighter. III feels like 5 hours of prologue, and really it doesn't have direction until all the way until part 2.

Tried 3 for like two hours, it didn't capture my attention.

4 I was always interested in, I remember reading an article in a magazine that compared FF9 to BoF4 and basically BoF4 won in almost all categories but the writer took away many points because FF9 was 4 discs while BoF4 was single disc...peak gaming "journalism"

Those games actually have unique mechanics in each game. There are probably more differences between Galaxy 1 and 2 than the entire BoF series combined

Loved the dragon gene system in BoF3. Some of the hidden combinations were interesting to discover as well. The only downside is that I can see some folks getting bored during the childhood segment of the game.

i finished 3 a few times on ps1 and psp (emulator), 4 is fun as hell and i played it on both ps1 and psp, and for some reason i always end up dropping it right when you get the gun girl, if it ever releases on steam, i swear im really gonna finish it.
