Update: 9 years later, I finally finished Blighttown. Much more bearable in the Remaster as there were no frame rate issues

Hey, so apparently with Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I was able to use my PS4 saves on my Xbox Series S, meaning I didn't lose my progress and have to start over.

I bought FF7 Remake this evening. Not sure when I plan on playing it, though. Part of me really wants to play all of the original first because of apparent changes they made to the story. At the same time, that seems dumb especially when I've already played the opening Midgar portion of the original FF7, so I highly doubt I do that. But because I'm curious, does having played the original enhance the experience at all outside of plain nostalgia? I think I'm aware of the general twist storytelling that Remake presents (though no need to expand on it in this topic please), but it seems to be accepted since people stopped complaining about it after the game came released.

you've played through Midgar, so you'll get most of it anyway. I don't think there's much to be gained from playing the rest (unless you just want to play it in general)

O&S are probably the high point of Dark Souls 1 and one of the highest points in the series. One of those fights that really forces you to understand the mechanics of the game.

Judgment on PS4. It's a Yakuza spin-off which is still more or less the same as any other Yakuza game. But it's a crime drama so you're searching for clues and even presenting evidence not unlike an Ace Attorney title.

As always, quality production through the audiovisuals and great beat 'em up gameplay. Also, as always, great writing and side-quests.

I'm 20+ hours in so maybe a bit over halfway now?

I love Yakuza, but these games are always so hard to finish. I'm on chapter 13 of Kiwami 2 and I'm ready to see it through to the end and want to mainline it, but there's still so much more level up and gauges to fill that my brain just wanted me to make sure I do that.

Anybody else have a problem in games with trying to complete all the side stuff that you are even remotely interested in before finishing the story even when you are ready to move on?

Yup and then I end up burned out and walking away from the game for a long time.

I rarely get burned out from the finishing a game I'm already playing, but in the case of Yakuza I end up not wanting to jump into the next game.

Ended up skipping to LAD even though I haven't played 3-6, though I'm very familiar with the SBF LP of 4 and thus also the general plot of 3.

I don't think this would be so difficult if I didn't share the PS4 with my wife who plays a lot of Modern Warfare with a friend. I just need to grind for a day and see where that puts me. I'm the type who restarts a game after an extended period away, so quitting right now isn't an option. And also I'm sure since FF7 Remake is the game waiting on the wings, I don't think it's possible to play both concurrently. I also play Football Manager, FFXIV, and League of Legends frequently as well.

Nope, I beeline to the end and do the majority of side content post-game. Although usually I just end up not doing it, especially if there are no trophies/achievements available

As I've grown older and my backlog increased, I've become more able to decide to turn in the mainline switch, though I'm like you and usually (read: never) to any post game content after the fact. Once I see end credits roll, I sort of mentally move on from a game. I tried to play the epilogue of Hades and was interested, but I couldn't see it too completion.

I pretty much played Yakuza Kiwami 2 all day yesterday forcing myself to largely ignore anything that felt too grindy and chore-ish and managed to beat the game. It was over the top drama and I freaking love it. I then launched FF7 Remake just to watch the opening cinematic and boy that game sure is pretty. The Aerith character model and animation is stunning.

What's the tone of Judgement like? Is it just as over the top action as Yakuza or does it remain a little more grounded?

good game up until a bit of tonal whiplash in the last hour or so involving sexual assault that it doesn't earn, justify, or recover from!

Beat Cyberpunk. Great game.

Now going back to finish Dragon Quest XI, another great game that I'm looking forward to finishing. This 'New Game +' is bananas so far. Didn't expect this. I'm assuming this why people say it has a great post-game.
