Are you allowed to take the permission and say the word?

Like if you're in a context where that word comes up, but the other person says "it's okay, I give you permission to use that word in front of me." At that point, is it acceptable to say it like any other word in the conversation? Or are you supposed to stand your ground and steadfastly refuse to say that word?

The weird thing in a lot of these conversations is that there are apparently all these white people who almost say the n-word but hold back.

Like I can't even remember the last time in conversation that I had to stop myself from saying it or where it was ever even a possible option.

TC, and others -

Leonardo DiCaprio said that word because of a script, aka - giving permission. Again, it's all about context,. He had to fit a role for a movie, others have as well.

When somebody "gives you permission" to say it, what they really mean is that they personally aren't going to get upset with you if you say it. They can't regulate how other people will react. No single person can give you permission because they don't have the authority to declare it inoffensive to other people. The most a person can do is say "I personally don't mind if you say it"

In any case, even if somebody did tell you they don't mind if you say it and "I give you permission" why WOULD you want to say it???? There's no reason you should want to say it.

Not everyone pronounces it to rhyme with Nigel. We don't all live in English speaking countries. You do not hold a world monopoly on pronunciation of foreign words.

I've been told, multiple times by multiple black friends, that they wouldn't care if I used the word around them. I've also had multiple conversations with them about the word and what each of us understands it to mean and represent.

Context is important. With some of these friends, I will simply never say the word whether they've given me "permission" or not, because I understand that they find it offensive (and, more importantly, why they find it offensive). With others, I'll only say it if I'm directly quoting something and leaving it out sounds more awkward than just saying it.

The ONLY circumstance where I will say it on my own in my own speech is in those discussions directly about the word itself. And even then, it's never directed at anybody in particular and I still try to say it as little as possible because it really just makes me personally uncomfortable.

I have control over my own vocabulary. If someone says its okay to say a derogatory word in any context doesn't mean I have any more or less of an urge to use it

A better question is why do white people want to use the word so much

As a person that also has control over my own vocabulary, I never feel the urge to use any particular word. I do my best to use the words that will get my point across as effectively as possible.

Depends on how you use it entirley.

if I am given permission, I'll only use it to describe the fact that the word is stupid and unnecessary. But I don't need to use it in that regard so I still don't most of the time (I have though, when drunk and I'll admit that).

but NEVER are you allowed to say "Thanks my Nnnnnn".

I did have a kid in school that actually wouldn't respond to my unless I called him "My Wheel Chair Nnnnnn" because he knew I didn't want to use it; I left him and his wheelchair in the middle of 2 flights of stairs and told him I'd help him down if he stopped; he didn't and a teacher had to help him. We were still friends after that, but I had to get his attention by poking him.

As a hip hop fan from the day I started consciously listening to music, I don't understand why you'd even want to come off as such a tryhard. I used it in my teen years when around other Mexicans mostly, but as I got older, I realized how the use of it came off so tryhard when not part of the black community and I stopped using it outside of rapping along to songs. Which can still come off tryhard but it feels natural since it's what I grew up to >_>. But being like "What up my *****" feels so tryhard and cringy.
