It had one of the worst regions, worst soundtracks, I don't even remember the plot, and most of the Pokemon designs were forgettable.

I remember getting stuck somewhere or something back when I played and I never actually got to beat the game. It felt pretty bland honestly.

They're not: it's Platinum that is so beloved. Unova is a pretty good region, but Platinum fixed a lot of the weaknesses of Diamond/Pearl(lag, lacking Pokemon selection, etc.). It has excellent starters, overall good Pokemon variety, a strong rival, an excellent soundtrack, one of the most iconic champions(Cynthia), the Distortion World, and a pretty neat post-game area. Plus, there was a lot of care put into the region design: lots of neat cities, routes, little side areas, etc. A lot of effort and love went into it, and it shows.
Plus, it was the first gen to have online trading and battling(flawed though it was).

This. This is the only reason why they might be getting more attention and love. They don't love Diamond & Pearl, they just love the idea of another set of remakes.

Platinum is great.

Diamond and pearl are mediocre in many ways but mainly for being SLOW AF. Long save times, slow battles, slow animations, tons of HMs to slow you up etc. Etc.

Also too many legendaries and babies. The new evos aren't too bad but they largelt didn't even show up till postgame for you to use so oops.

Platinum spruced up the graphics, added more to the dex, sped things up and also threw in a meatier postgame.

That said online was new and Cynthia made everyone horny.

Those are all opinions and I think most people disagree with them.

AFAIK people like the soundtrack.

The plot is typical Pokemon fare, no better or worse than any other Pokemon game stories.

The Pokemon are pretty beloved on the whole. It's got some fan favorites: Lucario, Infernape, Torterra, Empoleon, Luxray, Roserade, Garchomp, Gallade, Porygon-Z, Glaceon/Leafeon, and popular legendaries like Darkrai

As for Sinnoh itself, I think people have fond memories of Sinnoh. It has very expansive wild routes to explore, and also features a lot of unique locations to find rare and legendary Pokemon like Darkrai, Rotom, Heatran, etc. This was the generation where they basically gave each legendary its own location and lore, even the event Pokemon. Like Shaymin got its own cavern and route coming out of victory road, and then a long flower trail into the ocean. The only real problem with Sinnoh is that you need to use a lot of HMs to navigate it.

It was also completely feature-stuffed. There is a massive amount of stuff in DP. They also made huge strides toward competitive Pokemon by fixing the attack classifications and establishing online support for the series. They made the Pokeradar which was the first time they really facilitated shiny hunting in way that wasn't just "keep restarting lol" and the Poketch on the bottom screen had a lot of features you could use.

What the fuck is with this random Sinnoh hate. Sinnoh is the best region in the series. Great lore and world building, some of the most iconic designs in the series(Lucario, Darkrai, Garchomp, the starters, Arceus, etc.), some of the best music in the series, the best dungeon in the series, and one of the most popular characters in the series with Cynthia.

RSE has my favorite Pokemon soundtrack (with the exception of XD: Gale of Darkness, surprisingly enough), so DPPt had a lot to live up to; having said that, it still turned out quite good. But to this day I'm still convinced that they accidentally switched Cynthia and Dialga / Palkia's battle themes at the last minute and couldn't be arsed to fix / admit to the mistake.

This, 100%.

Nobody really cares that much about Diamond and Pearl. But we've hit the point in the franchise cycle where we're on track to get the next remake soon. We got Fire Red & Leaf Green in 2004 I think, then HG/SS in 2009? ORAS was 2014. So yeah every 5-6 years, and SwSh is effectively complete now that the DLC wrapped up.

The only people who care that much is the generation who it was their first Pokemon game. They're all adults now, so they're nostalgic for it.

When people talk about Sinnoh, theyre talking about Platinum. Not Diamond and Pearl. Actually thinking that Diamond and Pearl were loved shows how out of touch a person is with the Pokemon fan base.

Gen IV is considered to be one of the best gens because of Platinum and HGSS. A quick look at any Pokemon fandom makes this painfully obvious. Holy shit, people.

HG/SS are amazing games.

Platinum (let's lump it in with D/P) is just boring. The region is bland, most of the Pokemon designs are forgettable, the plot is boring, and the soundtrack sucks.

Wtf it's my favorite one and I started with Red/Blue at launch. The music is great, it had a bunch of legendaries, I liked the pacing because it actually feels like an adventure not rushed like the rest of the series.

3rd gen Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald had the worse music it all has the obnoxiously loud trumpet playing for every song

Opposite for me. I skipped Gold/Silver and came back with Ruby/Sapphire. Seeing Pokmon upgraded to SNES-ish graphics and sound was amazing. And it actually did something cool in regards to story, too. Then there were the double battles, and the addition of all the cool things you could do with friends in Link Cable mode with trading records, and the secret bases basically allowing you to become an optional boss in someone else's game. The wireless addition from FireRed/LeafGreen felt pretty mind-blowing, and the Battle Frontier in Emerald was amazing. You could even do 4-player tag-team battles together, or do co-op in Battle Tower.

It's my second favorite generation after gen 5. Great region, great music, and some of my favorite pokemon in the series (yeah, I'm a Lucario fan).

That said, I never knew it to be well loved by the pokemon fanbase. It was one of the more divisive generations iirc.

Everything I was going to say has already been said. D/P laid a solid foundation but were flawed in many ways. Then Platinum fixed basically every single major problem that D/P had and added even more content (especially postgame) and HG/SS took all of the great things that those games did and applied them to the Johto/Kanto regionsthat people loved and were nostalgic over.

I've been playing Pokemon since the very beginning, and I think that Platinum and HG/SS (along with B2/W2) are the pinnacle of the franchise.
