I seem to remember people raving about it when it was on PC. Was sorta expecting it to gain momentum when it went to Switch/consoles but it didn't seem to happen for CrossCode. It's on Game Pass so I'm checking it out and it seems good so far. But apparently it goes for 30-60 hours? Dunno if it'll keep my attention for that long but for now I'll keep giving it a shot.

Yes, and one of my favorite games I've played this year. I beat it on Xbone via Gamepass and pre-ordered the Collector's Edition for PS4. I can hardly wait to play it a second time. Chapter 7 is the highlight of the game for me, so if you can I'd recommend at least playing until then.

Cool. Thanks I'll stick with it. Haven't played a retro style throwback for a while. Pretty funny making it one of the first games I'll play through on Series X. Says it's enhanced but no idea what they did.

Got through Chapter 2 and yeah seeing NPC's talking about how they handled the boss fight has already justified the premise of being set within an MMO which I wasn't sold on before lol. The set up of going through this journey with other players kinda reminds me a little bit of Pokemon so far.

God yes. I don't recommend stuff ever, but if you're interested in it at all, I implore anyone to get it.

PC or Switch? If you can give any input. Trying to decide.

crosscode is great. I'd say it's on the shorter end of the 30-60 range though unless you're really obsessive about every single sidequest and item and enemy drop and etc

the dialogue writing is just really great all around. banter between you and friendly characters, conversations between you and "other players", or of groups of players amongst themselves, and a lot of amusing stories/talks with NPCs (well, both NPCs and "other players" are both NPCs since it's a single player game but you know what I mean). And somehow they managed to make it all work despite a nearly silent protagonist

I can't really do a direct comparison since I haven't played the switch version but personally I played it on PC with keyboard and mouse and didn't really have any complaint. most people I knew used a controller though

I remember reading that Switch had some performance issues at launch but I think they've been patched out now?

You can play it through Game Pass on PC as well if you've got that. It has been there for a while though so no idea how long it will be up for.

PC. There are some puzzles that require a little precision, and I had a little trouble with controllers. It handles much better with a mouse and keyboard. There's also some performance issues on Switch, although nothing game breaking fortunately.

Fair warning, the game is like 1/3 combat, 1/3 puzzle-y overworlds ("How the hell do I get onto that ledge?"), and 1/3 puzzle solving (which gets pretty hardcore). A lot of the progression with weapons and armor is a bit grindy, similar to an MMORPG. That can be something you love or hate.

The initial batch of quests you get are heavily grindy or just basic fetch quests to get x monster drops. Do not be fooled by this, as almost every quest in the game thereafter features a unique fight, obstacle course, puzzle, new gameplay elements, or something to make it stand out as a unique experience. Don't get sour over the first few hours of the game.

So just skip over typical "Collect 10 boar hides or whatever" type of quests in the first chunk of the game? Probably would do that anyway I suppose.

I'm not overly worried about getting the best weapons or whatever as long as I can get through the game I suppose.

Unless you intentionally skip enemies, you'll eventually complete these quests anyway as you're going back and forth. They aren't super grindy, just boring. Some of the endgame armors are really grindy, but you'll probably naturally get the materials for at least a couple of them and the game's combat aspect isn't hard enough that you need top-tier everything (except maybe the arena, haven't played the game since they added that).

I'm not really big on puzzles in games, but the way they were integrated with your abilities feels so seamless. I felt like I understood the complicated ones almost instantly, and are really fun to solve because it. Some of the reactionary ones are a little trial and error, but I have no complaints otherwise.

The overworld ledge puzzles are pretty out the way but very convenient when you go out of your way to explore and open up shortcuts to other parts of the maps. It was as simple as, "okay, where you do I need to start to reach that point?" for me, which allowed me to find starting points much faster.

I don't mind puzzles at all. I liked the one in that first proper dungeon but I'm guessing they were supposed to be easy. Very Zelda-like I thought so far.

You should totally do those quests since some of them are part of a super long quest chain but there's a really good chance that if you just kill everything you come across naturally you'll end up getting everything you need naturally without having to grind. I think I only had to hunt for 2-3 things the entire game.

I played like 5-8 hours of it and it didn't keep my interest tbh, there's a lot of samey sections

Like if you've played hyperlight drifter, I found that to be a super tight and we'll thought out experience leaving me wanting more. Cross code was the opposite end. "Ugh there's MORE of this?"

But maybe I'll give it another go

Yeah if I can just get them naturally I'll probably do them. Just don't wanna grind really.

Honestly you have to play up to the vermillion wasteland minimum to really get a fair shake of the game. It's not that far into the game.

I personally loved the dungeons but got a bit fatigued of running back and forth through the maze-like areas looking for how to reach certain spots or completing quests that spawned in a couple things in areas I'd already been. Still, so many of the quests are completely unique that you get excited for new things fairly often.

@Tyranthraxus
It's been a while but I'm in a snowy area way up in the sky, am I there yet?

Super close. After the snowy dungeon you do a "raid" and then after the raid you go to vermillion wasteland.

I'm enjoying it so far. I think I'm where Colahrodo was. Just about to reach the end of that snowy mountain area.

I haven't minded the side quests so far. I like figuring out how to get up to those high places. Especially once I figured out that you don't actually have to fight the creatures over and over. The treasure chests don't seem to have very valuable loot though.
