oh shit I remember this chick - she's the one who ratted rapey neckbeards out to their moms on fb. she's cool

but yeah so if i can get a degree in journalism and then write for some shitty gaming site, and then be on shitty gaming podcasts, then somehow meet a gaming titan and become friends with him, i can have a similarly impressive career

damn and i just learned of this super famous singer dude who's like 26, what am i even doing with life

Most of life is luck. Why compare yourself to someone like that?

For example, many people tried to do let's plays but only one of them was named Pewdiepie. For all his success, so many others failed.

Many people tried to stream league of legends but only one of them was named Pokimane. For all her success, so many others failed.

You can still go towards your goals, but never act like someone younger than you hitting them means you achieved nothing.

If you got a stable job, you achieved more than those who failes to be pewdiepie or pokimane.
Many try to be writers as well but there is only one Steven King, etc.

Same with that singer. So many try to be singers and fail. Luck wins for those who make it big.

For sure, but there's no reason I can't aspire to be more. Maybe I won't have a meteoric career but I'm dissatisfied where I'm at regardless of comparing myself to famous successful people. Need to figure something out. God I wish school didn't cost so mucho

but yeah i remember some screenshots months ago of her ratting to rapey neckbeards' moms which means i can never hate her

Not hatin, just generally youtubing doesn't necessarily require a degree. Like nigahiga went to school later but he didn't have to, if that makes sense.
I would imagine the same is with the rooster teeth guys since they got big from halo and that turned into big company.

Anyways, her having a degree doesn't mean you have to have one tc. Just show your worth and get on a show or whatever it is. Or make your own.

What's to get? She got a formal education, has boatloads of working experience, moved to a different continent to pursue her work ambitions, and built up loads of connections, all while building a decently-sized online following.

Not like she was handed anything, she did the work. Plus, didn't she just get a writing gig with a game studio? Neat and all, but doesn't inherently sound like a high-up gig or anything.

Alot of people really want to write for video games.
So in the grand scheme, maybe not, but to a subset of people it is the holy grail.

So, if you aren't passionate about anything in particular, in a way that drives you to specifically pursue it, then just go with something that will be profitable. Or expose yourself to different things and maybe something will strike you as particularly appealing.

So, would you suppose that an issue you're having is with a lack of direction or structure?

Honestly I wouldn't use someone getting a (entry level?) writing gig at a gaming studio as a metric for success. Everything I've seen makes it looks like working at these major studios is awful. Of course the writers probably don't experience all the same garbage the programmers do.

At the end of the day you should stop using other people's success to put yourself down, that doesn't help you

So, seriously asking, have you considered joining the military? Results may vary, but enlisting can help you with direction and discipline, if you're willing to work with it.

I dont know about the other branches, but the Navy has a rating, MC - Mass Communications Specialist. They essentially do journalist and public relations work for the Navy. Write articles, take pictures, work websites, video editing, etc.

Just as a suggestion, since it is a way to get your foot in the door with practical experience and the Navy will pay for certain related certifications and education.

Last I checked, age limit to enlist in the Navy was 39. As for what you find distasteful about it and if that would really rule it out for you, that's your prerogative.

But from a practical standpoint, it's better than doing nothing but fretting over falling behind your peers and not meeting your life goals. Even if you would just be enlisting for the practical benefits, I'd say give it another good look.

But, sure, it's not for everyone.
