Eh, tact and saving face are very important for convincing people to give you what you want. It may be illogical, but pretty much anything relating to leadership or negotiation is going to support the idea. You can a) give them an ultimatum that forces them to either resist or admit they're being idiotic or b) give them an out that lets them give some ground while saving face. Well, there are options c, d, e, etc. but these are the two we seem to be working with.

At this point, it is too late for many of the GOP to outright say Trump is peddling a bunch of bullshit without admitting they were enabling somebody that is either a huge liar or an idiot. If you think that they should come out and admit that on principle, I can understand that. But this is strategy is probably the best chance to actually get the next President briefed on what needs to be be briefed on, and the closest they'll get to outright admitting this is a bunch of bullshit in the near future.

Of course, it's reasonable to say we shouldn't be in this position in the first place (for many reasons), and the GOP has been empowering reality denial for many years now. But for this individual in this situation, who wants to make sure the next President isn't going into his position blind, "just in case" is probably the way he needs to go to get the transition happening as soon as possible.

It is probably better in the long run to take a hard stance, let Trump obstruct the transition, and let the Biden admin play catch up in order to take a strong stance against disinformation and conspiracies. So I can understand your position. But I also understand the position this guy is in is all.

If you're wondering, if I was in Lankford's position right now I would be declaring this is a bunch of bullshit. But then these Trumpers would vote me out of office next election cycle for somebody that didn't lol

Tact and saving face convince people who are reasonable and who you are talking too in good faith.

Tact and saving face against unreasonable people who are bad faith actors is completely useless.

Trump has been proof of this his entire life. The Birther movement, his tax returns, losing election, blaming all of America's problems on Meixco, bragging about wanting to be able to sue anyone who says negative things about him.

And tens of millions of supporters blindly suck up and support it all

Sure, that's fair enough. And also why the opportunity to save face is paired with a threat to intervention. If/when other Republicans begin to undermine him, this may help defend against accusations that he's a RINO.

Heard a quick quip on the local news that Biden was going to start receiving security reports but it was a lead in for later and not a real report so idk
