I'm not vegan but even I can see that it's silly to make a vegan burger when you don't even have vegan fries. Most vegans are vegan for ethical reasons, so I'm really not sure how well this is going to go over.

That said, I've had some really nice vegan burgers.

I've been boycotting McDonalds since 2015. I'd try it otherwise.

(why? They have always had the lowest quality fast food imo of all the major chains so I just stopped going there).

I've had a vegan Chinese burger before and it was nice but what made it nice the most was the added chilli sauce. Without that it would be bland. Still more options are always good. I'll try anything once, twice if I like it.

I guess this is in response to the Impossible Whopper?

Also, apparently, most of McDonald's money comes from real estate...

TBH i dont know how far from their normal "meat" patty it would be. Pretty sure their crap is mostly filler these days.

I'm not now nor have I ever been a Vegan, but I can't see this really helping them win over vegans. If only we had a vegan on this boards for their vegan opinion. Perhaps somebody who calls themselves a doctor...

I don't like McDonald's. I actually had a chicken sandwich from there last week, which was the first McDonald's I've eaten in over decade. It was at my grandmother's insistence because they're sooooo good. It was not good.

I might eventually try it, because I am curious about the evolution and future of "meatless meat". I tried the Impossible Whopper even though I'm not big on BK, as well as the Beyond Burger at Carl's Jr. The best "meatless meat" I've had so far was an Impossible burger prepared at The Counter (I've had it three times now). It definitely tastes and has a mouthfeel of meat, but not any meat I've ever had. It's close, but by no means is it a 1:1 replacement of beef burgers. Especially a really high quality burger.

Lol if this is anything like Burger King's vegan burger, they are going to fry it on the same flat top that they cook all the other meat patties, I remember people getting upset about that.

While this is marketed as a vegan patty, I don't think any of these places experimenting with "meatless meat" are actually targeting vegans. The BK one comes with mayo on it, iirc. I'm pretty sure the Carl's Jr. one has non-vegan ingredients too. Most the options at The Counter had some form of cheese and/or aioli. It's meant more as a meatless option for curious consumers, rather than trying to get vegans to eat at their burger chain.

McDonald's has had veggie burgers for years, just not in the US. There's the Vegetable Deluxe in the UK, the McVegan in Finland and Sweden, Le Grande Veggie in France, and the McAloo Tikki in India.

I would be more willing to try these types of things if the nutritional value was similar.

9 carbs in a meatless burger defeats the purpose for me.

They somehow managed to get 3x the amount of salt in there, than what's normally in a burger, so, there's that.

Nah. Not interested. I do find it a little amusing how processed foods are bad for us but they offer these as a "healthy alternative" when it's some of the most highly processed food available.

All that, plus I bet they dont clean the grills after having actual meat on them each time, or have a separate one just for these patties.

Because not as many people read. Some people hear "vegan" or "healthy" and just go for it without reading what's actually in it...

Does that make it non-vegan? I ask because based on the name, it sounds like it wouldn't be. But I read something online that said it technically could still be or something. Well, it actually said:
As Gary Reineccius, a food chemist specializing in flavor research, explains, "natural beef flavoring" isn't necessarily from beef at all.

That's why I ask... I haven't finished the article yet, though...

looking at the ingredients list their beef flavoring is made using milk derivatives, so that would make the fries technically nonvegan
