Suprak the Stud 10/15/20 5:22:57 PM #252:	The best way I can describe the battles are "Kingdom Hearts but much better". You have direct control over all of the characters, and you can swap between them on the fly so you no longer have to be screaming for Donald to get off his ass and do something. It is just about the perfect amount of complexity: I was able to pick it up quickly but it took me quite a while to figure out how to pull off the most optimized strategy. You'll be swapping between characters, building up ATB bars, and then swapping back to maximize the damage out put. Each character feels different and each character feels useful and there are a ton of interesting special moves that you can use to either build up stagger or deal maximum damage or provide some sort of other boost in battle. I had a ton of fun with it, and I was looking for battles to fight in just because I wanted to. It feels slick and smooth and somehow effortless and I was shocked but I didn't miss the turn based approach in the slightest. Bosses are longer, yeah, but I loved them. That's where you really get to test out your skills and make sure you have a good grasp on what to do. And it isn't like you're just fighting the same fight over and over. They all have different strategies to them and it was great to pull off some particularly brutal fight by the skin of your teeth (especially on hard mode). I think this game actually has two of my favorite RPG boss fights of all time, and they all just use the combat system so well it is genuinely impressive. And I loved guard scorpion! That was the point in my playthrough where I was like "oh shit this is really going to be a game, isn't it?" The first guard scorpion is somewhere between "Glass Joe" and "shy Goomba just looking to get past you" on the difficulty scale, but this one will actually put up a challenge and knock you around a bit if you haven't been paying attention. --- Moops? I have yet to play a non-turn based FF game yet But from the first real trailer they released, a boss fight against that Scorpion mecha iirc, it looked kinda drawn out, like 7 minutes long boss fight which looked a little too drawn out, imo I look back on the battle system now thinking how frustrated I was in the first playthrough, because there was a real learning curve, and frankly I was just not playing the game properly. Really just user error. Once you get the hang of it, it flows so seamlessly and is really a delight... and hard mode is really a great experience too. So I'm happy for that! @captaincanadian it was great teaming with you once again! I've thoroughly enjoyed our years of pushing Barret up the ranks together. Sorry I couldn't be of more help this year beyond my two saves a round. And thank you to all the other people who helped make Barret the strongest he has ever been.
