Stepping out into Hyrule Field for the first time, or seeing the full map and thinking "wow it's like an entire country!" when it's like 1/10th the size of modern games, if not smaller

Never played Master Quest before. Does it change the game up enough for it to feel like a fresh experience?

How different? Like the order things are done is switched around or they actually redid the whole dungeon?

Still probably my favorite game to this day. I agree that the world felt mind-blowing at the time.

Never played Master Quest. I bet I'm missing out.

This, but it's different enough to provide a new challenge. The core map itself is the same, but objects/sprites/enemies/switches are all different and do different things, so they function as a new dungeon really.

I played it for the first time a few years ago, and I would say to this day its still my favorite game of all time. Perfect story, gameplay, presentation, everything. Its a timeless classic that will never age.

In huge contrast to my experience with Super Mario 64, which Im currently going through in 3D All Stars. Horrid game which has aged like milk IMO, cant wait until I finish this turd and be done with it.

Also, I did both normal and Master Quest for the 3DS version. I hated the Master Quest personally. The dungeons just felt so unnatural and wrong, like a shitty rom hack. For example, the mini boss of a dungeon could give you a compass or a rupee etc instead of the item needed to progress the quest as it does traditionally, and has the actual necessary item hidden in some weird spot. I respect the challenge but I just wasnt a fan of that at all.

OoT's world still feels big to me tbh. Although it doesn't help that there's like 60-second day/night cycles.

I remember arguing with my older brother about how long the game was. He kept insisting that once you get the first three gems as Young Link that that was the whole game >_>

I remember my friend telling me he beat the whole game in a day and I didn't believe it was possible.

It took 7 year old me like a whole summer to beat the game, but a lot of that was due to me just exploring Hyrule a lot and not being great at reading lol

I think Oot is great but I dont think it's the perfect game many claim it is. I think compared to Alttp and Majoras Mask the actual game world feels kinda bland. I think some of the dungeons and bosses arent very good or feel dull on replay. I prefer Majora really.

Man I can't imagine beating that in one day as an adult. Maybe I am misremembering how much stuff was there, but I was really taken aback when you become older Link and everything is different.

Man that was such a beautiful game.

I got stuck in the Water Temple on the Master Quest and haven't touched it since. I swear they made it so you could literally trap yourself in there and no be able to get through it to beat the game.

My dad loved Quest 64 and the werebunnies. I never made it past that boss battle at the bottom of the volcano lake though.

Yeah, I was thinking about this not too long ago.

Back in the day, Hyrule Field was this massive open land that we were mind-blown about over how big it was.
...12 years later, Xenoblade brings up Gaur Plain, and it makes Hyrule Field look like a suburban backyard in comparison.

Not to mention all of the other open world games that have been released since then.
