But based on what people have said, I'm obviously talking about a much larger scale than some battle in a Pokemon game. More important than Pokemon dying is people dying, because again it makes zero sense that some gangster in charge of a crime organization (specifically talking about Giovanni) would walk away every time a kid defeats him in a Pokemon battle.

Also speaking of Giovanni, it's a huge conspiracy that the leader of a crime organization is one of the 8 gym leaders. If Pokemon was a better game they would have explored that, but as the first reply said it's just a game for kids.

I don't mean that every Pokemon game should be a Nuzlocke run for all trainers, I mean that you should have to choose whether or not to spare a Pokemon at certain moments, there should be moments where you have no other option but to kill, etc. And all this would affect the story.

There's quite a few implied deaths as well. BW has a couple, such as Alder's old partner Pokemon, the ghost girl on the Marvelous Bridge (BW)/Strange House (BW2), etc. There's also Lysandre's fate in XY, which is dark no matter which version you play

Gen 3 depending on Ruby or Sapphire Teams Aqua and Magma are your allies in Emerald you fight both morons
Gen 4 had the villain wanting to control depending on Diamond or Pearl, Time or space, in Platinum he wants to control both
Gen 5 Black or White depending on which you pick a certain character claims his belief that pokemon belong on their on away from humans is the truth, in the other it's the ideal in the sequel game BW2 he realizes his truth/ideal was wrong compared to the player's and the new character is also fighting for that truth/ideal
Gen 6 X or Y depending on which you pick decides if the villain dies or if he's trapped under rubble for all of eternity as an immortal being

Gen 7 is very minor in changes, In Sun your time matches the outside world, if it's day it's day in the game if it's night it's night in the game, in Moon it's night during the day and day during the night

Gen 8 is also minor as in Sword Gym leaders Bea and Gordy are in the major leagues as gym leaders where as in Shield Gym leaders Aliester and Melody are in the major leagues as of the crown tundra DLC you will be able to fight both sets of gym leaders no matter the version in the new Star Tournament competition where league ranking doesn't matter minor or major anyone can compete.

Sudowoodo is pretty great. He can sweep much of Crystal. Rock Slide, Earthquake, Faint Attack, Low Kick.

60 power and sudowudo has terrible SP ATK. Plus most things its super effective against have much higher special def.

Even when rock slide is resisted its still usually gonna do much much more. Its legitmately difficult to imagine a scenario that would actually happen wherein faint attack was a good choice. If someone was spamming sand attack switching to something else would kill much faster

Low kick also sucks long term but is a good filler until you get Earthquake from victory road as rock and steels, will wall you otherwise and can help preserve rock slides low PP, Only 50 power and flinch is nigh meaningless on his low speed.

Dynamic Punch(Its nice against snorlax or Umbreon if your luck isnt awful or for a YOLO status attempt on something that sudowudo cant do much against)
Curse(Not many fights this actually means much in given his garbo special bulk and already low speed making him an easy target for any special attacker, but the ones it does he can really steamroll)
Sleep Talk(Rest is needed for this to not be a waste of space 90% of the time)
Rest(Sleep Talk is needed for this to not be a waste of space 90% of the time
Mud-Slap(Another cant do much damage try to cripple before I die filler)
Fire Punch(essentially only for Forretress/Scizor/Steelix/Skarmory or you cant do shit to an opponent and hope for a burn)

Thunder Punch is not worth considering. Rock slide does more to flying types and water types will outspeed one shot sudowudo most the time (and take more from Rockslide except maaaaaybe Gyarados)

Same for ice punch. Dragonites just get rockslided. Flying types get rockslided. Bug types get rockslided. Ground types get earthquaked or dynamic punched.

Pokemon games will never be good until there is actually death in the games (both people and Pokemon)

I mean think about how absurd it is that a kid is going around stopping an evil organization by defeating them in Pokemon battles in which their Pokemon faint after losing all their health. When you're a kid this doesn't matter but when you get older you realize how absurd and stupid it is.

You don't actually ever see deaths, but it's still a pretty frequent theme in all the games. There's all the Pokemon graves and ghosts in various games of course. And then there are the team villains. In Black/White 2 Ghetsis straight up attempts to kill the player the character, and he's only foiled by N arriving just in time to save you. And there are other villains who are basically attempting to destroy the world and wipe out all or some life. So no, you never see anyone directly die, but I think that works better for Pokemon.

Death does not automatically make something better. Pokemon does not take full advantage of its lore, that's for sure, but it's not necessary to really shove death down people's throats to tell a half-decent narrative.

The Pokemon world itself seems to have established that losing Pokemon battles is the end of the conflict. Because of course, these are superpowered weaponized monsters, why the hell would you want to continue a fight when your weapons are down and your opponent's is not?

When a villain goes beyond that it's considered an exceptional circumstance. After Lysandre lost, he fully intended on killing the cast with the superweapon, and got done in because of it. Ghetsis in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon's Rainbow Rocket arc outright was going to take and possibly kill Lillie if the player didn't stand down and throw away their Pokeballs, pretty much the first time a human actually used their physicality and position to try to turn a disadvantageous situation in their favor.

Honestly like their manga teams more, you have some pokemon in there that you wouldn't normally expect them to use. For instance Red has a aerodactly and Blue has a Scyther/Scizor. Also Red's beginning starter was Bulbasaur although his first pokemon was poliwhirl. Gold's team is probably weaker then his ingame team though as he wasn't really a battling guru like Red.

Do they actually pay attention to types? I haven't seen the anime since like the orange islands but it always made me crazy even when I was 10 that Ash just battles with whatever he wanted.

Yeah, I have no earthly idea why Ghost was physical, if they wanted to have a balanced number of physical and special types they should have made Dragon physical.

Dark in Gen II should also have been physical.
