MI3 is probably the most underrated one, I think.

PSH was really menacing as the villain.

I mean, theyre just ok. Theyre worth seeing just for the crazy Tom cruise hijinks. But theyre not movies Ive ever felt the desire to see more than once.

I disagree. The crazy stunts are what make the movies immensely rewatchable for me.

Don't quote someone and then say you disagree. It makes you look at an ass. Just post your own opinion without mention others.

I disagree. It's perfectly fine to quote someone and disagree with an explanation.

I was a fan of the original tv series. Did not like how the first movie took a big shit over them like it did.

nah there's always hype around them with special praise for tom cruise and his stunts.

the most overlooked and underappreciated trilogy of movies in recent times is definitely the new planet of the apes movies.

they appeared, had some decent popularity and critical acclaim and then are never brought up again

Yeah this is something I learned some time after the fact.

It's like if for the first Star Trek movie, they turned Kirk into a selfish jerk who was the real villain and Captain Decker was the new hero who ended up thwarting him.

Like you wouldn't be able to get away with that shit today. Like they made Luke a grumpy old man in Star Wars who eventually turned around and look how that went.

I feel like it's one of the most bizarre series where for like 10 years and 3 movies it ranged from being mediocre to just okay, then all of a sudden the series becomes AMAZING with the 4th. I've never seen that from a blockbuster. Then the 5th is good, and the 6th is great, second only to the 4th one (brad bird directed).

I recently rewatched all 6 this year and made topics about them. First one was good, second one I wanted so desperately to like because John Woo but it's not very enjoyable, and third one is very jj abrams like (which can and cannot be a good thing) with a great performance by hoffman. I like how that one was supposed to be "the end of hunt" and him retiring and living happily ever after with a wife... and then they made 3 more movies lol, all 3 of which have been way better than the first 3.

I saw the trailer for Fallout and was actually really interested in the premise so I went and watched all the films prior to it coming out.

I had known of the series with each iteration but never thought I'd be interested.

They're fairly great action flicks. I've seen Fallout twice but I've only seen the rest once.

Yeah, wouldn't want to break your fragile mental echo-chamber. People will eventually disagree with what you're going to say sometimes. Get over it.

isn't this what happened with the F&F movies? though the overall quality is a bit hit or miss but the consensus is that 4 onwards >>> 1-3

Actually I'd like to change my answer to this. Definitely an overlooked series and I don't know anyone who is a fellow fan of them. Rise of the planet of the apes was one of my biggest shock movies in the 2010s in terms of how quickly I fell in love with it without expecting to.

Dawn was still good but missing what I liked about Rises (really liked james franco and and john lithgow and andy serkis performance speaks for itself)

I actually only watched War a month or so ago, and... it was okay. Still had a lot of heart and good performances but wasn't nearly as unique as the first 2 and I didn't like it as much. Ok ending.

But Rise, Rise was just amazing. The possibilities that movie presented for a good rebooted franchise was immeasurable.

I finally watched all of Fallout and there was some clear footage in the chase scenes that had me thinking how the film makers did it and I'm glad I finished it because I didn't missed out.

I also recently came to learn that the first movie apparently craps on the original series. It's very similar to... well I'm drawing a blank on the series for some reason but it's similar to when an established series has a protagonist that the fans follow and love, and then they kill him off or something for this newer younger model and expect the fans to be invested in the new guy.

I'd joke that probably the reason it "flew" back then was because everyone who even watched the show when the movie came out was already a grownass man and there wasn't the whole "delayed manchild latency" of the modern era where audiences take their cartoons/media too seriously.

Edit: Oh another thing I wanted to mention that I thought was funny is that the movies themselves where gonna do the whole "replace ethan hunt with a new guy" thing. I think jeremy renner was propped up to take the place of tom cruise (which they also planned with the jason bourne series) but then I guess they didn't? And lol jeremy was then regulated to being a side character making jokes and quips away from all the action

4 sucks. The consensus is that 5 revitalized the franchise and was the best movie in the series

It seems like every time they come out no one really watches them and then people pop up saying "Oh man, this ones actually really good". None of them are that great though. It's weird that no one seems to be watching them yet they're making half a billion in ticket sales.

I've seen a few of the modern MI movies and they were aggravating as shit. Tom Cruise controls everything. Most of the suspense comes from the fact that he doesn't know how to plan for shit properly.

Just annoying.

4 may have been the worst of the new movies but it's also what brought the franchise back starting with the actual main cast and not 5.
