I always get a kick out of the Smash fan base how they waste so much energy arguing about who or what deserves a spot and all the arbitrary lines in the sand they come up with.

I mean, this is true, but its also the last remaining rule that hasnt been broken. Before Brawl, everyone thought third party characters were out of the question. And before 4, everyone thought the characters game had to have shown up on a Nintendo console.

Im sure the must be a video game character rule is going to remain for a while, but its only a matter of time before it gets bent or broken entirely.

Tho if that does happen, I doubt it will be like, Goku or Naruto or whatever. Itll probably be something like, a Gundam piggy backing on Custom Robo, or something wacky like Doraemon. >_>

Sakurai has already made defined rules against characters that didn't originate from video games. 5 entries and that rule still hasn't been broken.

"must be a video game character" is the closest thing we've ever had to being a rule. Imo, everything else is just coincidence.

I don't think Goku will be in a Smash game but if it happens it happens. Sakurai and Nintendo can out in whoever they want as long as they have the approval really. And who at this point would say no?

Yes, he didn't originate in a video game. That's literally been the main point being made. Smash is full of characters that originated in video games and not TV shows that had lines of video games (closest thing to an exception is Pokmon)

I remember people saying that there wouldn't be an ARMS rep because Spring Man was an assist trophy.

There are several weird made up rules people have stated. While the 'must originate from a video game one' is probably valid it's only valid until it isn't. Sakurai also used to say Ridley wouldn't be a Smash fighter and yet here we are.

1. You talk as if I don't want Goku in Smash. If by some miracle Goku does make it in Smash I'd actually be happy. I like Goku so quit with this "what do you have against Goku being in Smash" shit.

2. The amount of games you have is irrelevant to your chances getting in, so stop.

3. The only reason people cling onto the "video game character" rule is because that's literally the only rule that exists. Samurai never said "No non Nintendo characters", Samurai never said "No third party characters" the only thing Samurai has said was that he's only focusing on video game characters. So stop saying "Samurai has broken rules time and time again" because he hasn't.
