A Nebraska bar owner that killed a rioter who was attacking him and his business has committed suicide, a friend has confirmed to The Gateway Pundit.

The bar owner, Jake Gardner, was indicted by a grand jury on counts of manslaughter, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted first-degree assault and making terrorist threats after intense political pressure was placed on the city.

On May 30, the 38-year-old confronted a group of rioters outside one of the bars he owns in Omaha and was knocked to the ground.

From there, he fired two warning shots and tried to get to his feet, prosecutors said. As he did, Gardner got into a fight with one man, James Scurlock, 22. The two scuffled before Gardner fired a shot that killed him, Yahoo News reports.

The rioter who was shot had repeatedly broken windows at the bar and other businesses in the area.

The incident prompted a wave of further protests, particularly after Donald Kleine, the Douglas County attorney, determined that Gardner had acted in self-defense and declined to bring charges.

A week later, Kleine said in a statement that after hearing from local residents and elected officials he would welcome an outside review in this rare instance. He added, I made a decision and I would not change that decision based on everything I know today,' the Yahoo report explains.

Douglas County District Court Judge Shelly Stratman then appointed a special council, Fredrick Franklin, an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorneys Office in Omaha, to handle the case, though they said they expected the same outcome.

Instead, Franklin bowed to pressure and dug up evidence and came up with charges.

The manslaughter charge, he said, is related to Scurlocks death; the attempted assault charge resulted from the second warning shot Gardner fired; the charge of making terrorist threats is linked to a verbal confrontation that Gardner had with Scurlock, Franklin continued, Yahoo reports.

On Friday, a judge signed off on an arrest warrant for Gardner. A GoFundMe fundraiser to raise money for his defense was deleted by the platform.
Gardner was allegedly planning to turn himself in to the police on Monday.

Franklin said Gardner was charged because the probe had found evidence that undermines Gardners claims of self-defense. And that evidence comes primarily from Jake Gardner himself, he said.

Franklin pointed to texts from Gardners phone; messages from Gardners Facebook account; and Gardners interactions with bystanders prior to even coming in contact with James Scurlock. Investigators also reviewed surveillance video that showed Gardner and his father, David Gardner, inside Gardners business that night.

"Warning shot" no such thing. That's reckless endangerment. If you have to shoot your gun you shoot the attacker, period. Being able to warn them means it's not life or death.

Sucks for the family that they lost someone though. Both the Gardner and Scurlock families.

I live in Omaha. The guy was a known white supremacist sack of shit for years.

Guess he knew the evidence he turned over would land him in jail and went out on his own terms.

Sad that we'll never see what the evidence was and if it really was bad enough. Considering the special prosecutor went into this agreeing it was self-defense and then saw the new evidence and agreed with the indictment charges, it must have been pretty damning.

Also his bar was fucking trash. No idea why it was so popular. Every time I went there it was overcrowded as fuck due to being tiny as hell, the music sucked, the drinks sucked. Bartenders were always pretty cool at least.

If this is the case from eariler in the year I remember, this guy was 100% a racist murderer. The video pretty clearly showed he was the aggressor in the encounter, both his family members and customers of his bar stated he had a long history of racism, he had earlier that day posted on his social media his intention to start shit with protestors, and he was even heard shouting the n-word and "n-word lovers" some time before he picked a fight with the guy he murdered. He was looking to kill a black person and thought he had finally gotten his opportunity to get away with it. There were a few right wing trolls in the original thread stanning hard for him so no surprise they're still at it and TC tried so desperately hard to find a source that reinforced his narrative that some racist murderer was in fact a victim of the system. Fucking pathetic.

Oh, now I remember the case. Yeah, not sad at all that he killed himself. I'm just sad it took that to stop him and only after years of racism and even killing someone.
