Idk. Everybody Ive ever known that could be described as a good person usually feel guilt when they realize some heinous shit they said in ignorance upset people. They might not have the courage to admit theyre wrong in the heat of the moment, but youll notice a change in them relatively soon.

This weird tut-tutting at anger seems really weird. >_>

Not sure if this is what you're talking about but

I don't get why people are fine admitting that they would not listen to good points if the tone is bad. Or that they're fine listening to bad arguments as long as it's said in a calm way.
At least, that's how I interpret those who keep making a point about being civil.

Like, the reason to be civil is to not be an asshole, not so you can convince someone of something.

But yes, I do understand that as people we are sensitive and obviously shit like that impacts how others listen to you. I just find it weird that people see it as a positive instead of as an instinct to fight against

If someone is competent enough to understand your point and your tone makes them disagree with you, then they never agreed with your point. I can't imagine a thing that I believe that I would stop believing if someone said it the wrong way.

Basically. Ive been noticing over the years this weird, pseudo-intellectual push for stoicism. Like, valuing how values are expressed more than the values themselves. >_>

People who say that are people who like acting as if they're above people.

Some of the biggest changes in history came from aggressive actions rather then passively talking it out.

Ignore when people say that the title length is not important, that a title should just convey what the game is about. They're just jealous theirs isn't as long

Civility is overrated.

People who believe in crap like herd immunity or Qanon don't really deserve civility. Those are incredibly hostile things to believe in. If your belief system involves harming others then you have no right to being treated with civility.

Like there aren't "two sides" to a lot of issues. There sometimes is a clear right and wrong.

My mind is an open book, do you find it entertaining? At least be original in your responses then.

You're right, in the sense that violence is a pretty effective way to accomplish significant change. I mean, the US likely wouldn't be the superpower it is today if we didn't engage in a policy of aggressive manifest destiny.

Like that book "how to win friends and influence people", it's like the main point of the book was that to get people to like you or listen to you, you should be calm, positive, flatter them, etc..which is fine and all.. but personally all the book told me was to make sure to not let people influence me through fake flattery.

Ya,I'm all for stoicism but it shouldn't be a means to an end.

Honestly, I don't think opinions are worth sharing if you aren't ready to argue them

seems many communicate to prove the other wrong.its either absolutely right or absolutely wrong. theres no bridge to understand each other and come to an agreement that some times, its both right and wrong, where do we go to move on.

The point is that if you speak to people aggressively, they are less likely to listen to you in the first place. Furthermore, yes, if people get defensive, they tend to dig their heels in.

If your goal is changing minds, then you shouldn't speak aggressively (most of the time). The issue is that most people here aren't trying to change people's minds, they're here because they have nothing better to do.
