Not at all 4, 5, 6, 7 are all different Only 1-3 matter (and that's slight, too) 4 = Leon saves the President's daughter 5-6 = plot "jumps the shark" 7 = stand alone in haunted house --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

7 is tied to the rest of the series, but you won't anything if you haven't played 5 and 6

RE7 is so disconnected from the rest of the series that it genuinely feels like they created a new franchise and then slapped some small stuff onto it to make it RE.

Okay I decided to just jump right to 7 (even though I own 5 and 6).

5 and 6 will put the current role of a character in the DLC into context. And honestly I'd recommend playing all of them at some point.
