Obviously don't mean like, actually seeing songs performed live in concert, that's dope. But I've never liked the live versions of songs that are sometimes on albums, particularly Deluxe editions and such.

Like, when I'm just chilling listening to Spotify with my headphones, I just wanna vibe out to the music, I don't wanna hear random peeps clapping and cheering and shit, even if it's only at the very beginning/end.

I get it, but sometimes live versions absolutely kill the studio version. It's obviously ideal if you cant hear the crowd in the middle, but often doesn't work out that way.

I don't mind live versions of songs sometimes and there are some that are even better than the studio versions, but it does annoy me when the radio or streaming services or whatever pick live versions over studio ones. Guess it's a rights thing? Like radio stations everywhere play the live version of Even Flow.

it grinds my gears when we don't have a studio version of the song and they just plugged a live version of the song in the middle of the studio album, like wtf

I agree. The only exception imo is the symphony and Metallica album

Agree on most live albums.

There are some live versions that I like better than the studio version.

Also a huge fan of Nirvanas Unplugged album.

Its basically the reason I stopped using pandora. They'd throw live versions in there and I'm afraid to dislike or like it because if I like it, it'll keep playing the live version instead of the studio version and if i dislike it then it may not play the studio version ever or affect the algorithm too much and make me miss out on some good recs

I will say though, Pearl Jam has some good live stuff, probably one of the few bands I don't mind listening to live versions over their studio stuff and I daresay may actually prefer a lot of their live versions

I'm actually the opposite. Most of the time, I prefer live albums to studio. Studio albums can be faked, fine tuned, and edited in post production. Whereas live, it's literally the band playing there right in front of you. It's one of the best judgments of a band's musicianship, in my opinion.

I, however, love music and going to concerts. So I may be biased, but I'll take live albums any day of the week over studio.

when it's good i like the more dynamic energy, both in the sense of it not being sealed up in the vacuum of the studio, and how some bands intentionally approach their material differently. for example the pumpkins are so lush and layered on the albums but, since they can't really replicate that on stage, they play with more speed and attack and try to take your head off. it can give it new life

Blind Guardian's "Live" album is my favorite version of their music. The crowd brings an extra level of energy.

Same here. Also, when some band does a remake version of one of their old songs-- I want to hear the original, not this updated version you stupid fucking program!

I greatly prefer studio songs to live songs unless I also have the visuals of the actual live performance in front of me. The only live song I have in my entire music library is a version of Disturbed's cover of "The Sound Of Silence" where Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge joined David Draiman on the vocals, and I only have it because no studio version of the song with Myles also singing exists at all.

Yeah, for the most part I have to agree. But there are exceptions. Fortunately I don't have to choose.

Idk about that one; there's definitely something special about being there in person for a live performance.

A lot of live albums have studio overdubs in them in varying quantities. Kiss Alive! has very little completely live material on it.

If you're a jazz fan the live versions are ALWAYS better than the studio versions, almost without exception

Hell, same with classical, blues, folk etc.

There are certain kinds of music that don't benefit from being produced well and require a high energy environment to really shine. Most music is like that, but fewer types of music actually sound better in a noisy bar.
