Welcome to the King of Fighters 2020 (NOT MERCS) Simulated Character Battle Tournament!

The game is simple. The two* listed characters are placed in an (imaginary) location with a variety of (imaginary) environments, kind of like a picture in a child's schoolbook that describes different types of geological features. Within a ten mile radius, there is an (imaginary) urban downtown, exurbs, plains, snow-clad mountains at the edge, dry plains, etc. Fighters start wherever is most appropriate for them, but feel increasingly compelled to seek out their opponent and fight. Strong-willed fighters can try to hold out in their chosen environment for longer... eventually, all will succumb and actively search for the other to battle.

To participate, just vote in bold for whichever character you believe will win. Giving reasoning is optional, but please be polite and read what others have said and carefully make your decision. I'll ping the nominators (they can opt out) to give arguments if they wish.

Cyclops can shoot OPTIC BLASTS through a mountain, but he can only do it for so long. Cloud and Sephiroth can cut through buildings with ease - how does Zack compare?

Cloud and Sephiroth can cut through buildings with ease - how does Zack compare?

Zack's main personal feat is durability - during the price of freedom scene he holds off a battalion of Shinra soldiers with machine guns and helicopters with rockets and such before dying but y'know it was a really good run. I don't remember his offense plot showings but it's been forever since I played Crisis Core and I'm probably missing something. I feel like he should be on par with Cloud/Seph considering Cloud looked up to him and Seph respected him.

Zack also has typical Final Fantasy stuff, including limit breaks (Octaslash is basically Omnislash) and summons (Megaflare/Exaflare/Zantetsuken - not clear if he gets that stuff here).

Probably Cyclops for the same reason he usually beats Wolverine, he's really good at caroming shots around to keep melee people off of him

Doesn't Cyclops rarely exert a huge amount of power at once? I think he prefers to do things like trick shots. Too much exertion and he could collapse. He's been the leader of the X-Men for ages so he's got to have a sound tactical mind, which means he probably doesn't just blow everything up.

Zack assuming hes has access to limit breaks and materia and stuff.
I mean he has a chance to roll invincibility in like six or seven different ways with his slots mechanic. Even without this ridiculous mechanic he has access to a hat load of items and magic that can destroy cyclops. Cyclops is too one dimensional, hes not ludicrously powered in the marvel universe and doesnt have any of the mechanics that win this battle. He has no regen, no status ailments or magic or anything.

Yes.

He has literal invincibility if he rolls Aerith on his reels. There is many other rolls that gives him invulnerability to physical damage such as concussive beams. He can also literally revive with summon materia like Phoenix.
His status materia alone could win this fight, things like blind make it difficult if its in FF universe because it makes physical attacks very low chance to hit.
